Dell Latitude 5400 performance

Try run the built in Dell ePSA test if you've got some hours to kill, ensure to do the thorough one to test the memory and disk.
I had already done a basic test - All good; I'll run the full whack overnight at some stage, and see if anything gets picked up. Thanks! That said, I don't think there is a hardware issue, to be honest, I think the workload I am inflicting on the device is simply a bit much.
 
Sorry for not being able to help with the performance issues which is most likely just Dell throttling to keep it run cool and give good power consumption.....

What is the battery life like when doing a bit more performance loaded tasks?

Hard to say as I am plugged in 95% of the time; that said, battery life is generally very good, generally.

Also, I've done everything that is possible to do to ensure it's as hot and fast as possible (which it is, I've got the chest burns to prove it [need to get a stand for it]).
 
You mention a whole lot of geekbench stuff but not the actual score.

Isn’t it as simple as taking the geekbench score for the CPU and then running it on your own and comparing?

No gut feelings required. Literally the point of benchmarks.
I did run the 4.4 suite, but I was unsure at the time if that was the latest/unified version, will run and post results, and compare to similar systems/same CPU.
 
I think his is comparable to mine. No GPU, only built in Intel HD 520 for me at least...

@copacetic - you mentioned moving from a Desktop: what are the specs/results of that?

Not so much moving, just separating my work machine from my gaming / general PC (same difference though). Water-cooled i7-4790K / 16GB fairly speedy DDR3, 3070, Samsung EVO 850 SSD, fancy-ass motherboard for that generation, etc). So while not a beast PC, it's miles ahead of the laptop.
 
Part of me kind of wants to ditch both systems, and get a beastmode laptop (should have sold the 3070 a couple months ago - would have subsidised 3/4 of a monster laptop :ROFL:)

I have a nagging suspicion that my laptop is running a little slower than it ought to (with the obvious caveat that this is a gut feeling and it may just be what it is), specs (pulled from Geekbench which I was messing around with):

Drive - SK hynix SC401 512GB

Used for normal office-type applications / browsing, etc - It just seems to struggle sometimes, with workloads that seem they should not kick its ass as much as they do (couple of PDFs / Excel docs, music playing, browser running and the like).

Anyway, I am looking for any advice on how to A) diagnose if there is in fact any issues, and if so, what to do about it.

I am vaguely tech savvy, so have tried most of the obvious things I can think of, but nothing seems to make much of a difference, really.

In Windows 10 I click start and type 'System' and it comes up with something called system information. I posted a screenshot on the previous page. In there there's a tab on the left for conflicts. Basically which items are competing for resources (mem addresses, IRQs, etc). I'd be interested to see if there are any unique to yours or mine. I'll post mine in a bit.

He was on 10 with the same results. I think an NVMe will make a difference.
In synthetic benchmarks, a NVMe will make a difference.. In real world application, not so much.. his benchmarks are more than sufficient for his described use case..

He had also already mentioned having checked whether there were any bottlenecks on terms of resources and he confirmed everything there is fine..
 
Did you see my bench with two different SSDs in the same machine? It absolutely makes a difference in mine - I've had both and I moved the SATA to secondary with the NVMe as OS.
Yes, I saw your benchmarks..

What I am saying is, his SSD is capable of performing more than adequately for his described use case based on his benchmarks.. For his use case, a 7200rpm HDD should work just fine for him as well, which would benchmark far below what his current SSD is benchmarking..

Unless he sees that his SSD is saturating read/write speeds when checking performance monitor, a NVMe is going to make no difference..
 
It's not apples to apples as it's desktop vs mobile, but just to give you some perspective about what to expect (and I know, userbenchmark is crap, but it's easy):
