Tried it but couldnt connect. I then called Voda and they said I need a Voda Connect v8 software. Unfortunately that software comes bundled with their branded Dell notebooks. So I cant get it anywhere!!!

I will try MTN tomorrow morning (it seems like Virgin are clueless).

As for the bluetooth thing, I sent a querry to Dell SA, will also follow it up tomorrow.

F.Y.I most notebook resellers get it wrong, most notebooks today come with wifi and BLUETOOTH CAPABILITY/SOFTWARE, very few actually come with the actual bluetooth device built in.
And if you look at most notebooks they come with built-in hotkeys to activate your wifi or bluetooth, now 90% of notebooks actually have the buit-in wifi hardware so thats not an issue, just hit the button and it searches for wireless networks.
BUT if you hit the bluetooth hotkey it may not do anything because only, roughly about 30% of notebooks have built-in hardware for bluetooth as i said above.
so what is the hotkey for? it just activates it when you INSTALL A USB BLUETOOTH DEVICE... which is less than R150.00 nowdays.:rolleyes:

oh and i checked on your laptop... please read fine print when purchasing, coz it says....
"Dell Wireless350 BlueTooth internal wireless card (optional)"

I got a D620, to get the bluetooth working, I had to enable it in the bios, and set what the wireless switch does, you can set it to bluetooth, wireless or wireless and bluetooth. Have you looked at those settings in the bios?

Firstly, I'm not sure whether our administrator indicated that our laptops need to have bluetooth or not (total of 10 laptops).


Secondly I dont know how to go about enabling it from Bios. Some guidelines will be very much appreciated here.

Ok, turn on pc, and press F2 when the dell screen comes up. Go down to the section called Wireless, expand it. Go to internal bluetooth and see if you can set it to enabled. Then go to the section Wireless Switch and set it to whichever setting you want. Hope that helps
 
If Bluetooth is enable in the BIOS, a sec or two after power up the Bluetooth icon (next to WiFi) will glow blue. If it doesn't you do not have a (optional) Dell 350 Bluetooth module installed in your D620.

Same goes for HSDPA, just cause theres a SIM slot under the battery does not mean you have the (also optional) Dell 5505 3G/HSDPA module installed.
 
I have been rolling out Dell D620's for a long while now. None of them had the bluetooth module possibly for two reasons I can think of:

1. To cut back on costs.
2. You will probably use it with your cellphone...most admins prohibit the use of phone software and most other devices associated with bluetooth.

Even our D420 models don't come with the bluetooth although I know it is supported on this model as well.

So they exclude the bluetooth module entirely and thats probably the same in your case.
 
Notes taken, I called Dell three times and they all gave me conflicting info. One said I do have both (HSDPA/Btooth), one said I only have Btooth, another said I have none! I think I probably have none as well cause my company did gave me a Dta Card long ago, so I doubt if they spent more money on this. As for the bluetooth, my last laptop did have bluetooth enabled (and so are all the laptops that were bought from 2005 till early this year). This batches of D620's were bought this month (May) I think we have about 10 in total (my company is growing rapidly). I haven't spoken to my colleagues yet to ask them if they have bltooth or HSDPA or both. But I will try the BIOS thing-ing, if that fails then I know that I have NONE!!
