Dell Latitude E7240 loud fan

Hi Mybb peeps.

My boss just recently received a new Dell Latitude E7240 because he travels often so he was looking for something light weight to replace his Latitude E6430.

When i was building the machine and copying all the data across i don't recall hearing the fan being so loud but since he started using it opening multiple spreadsheets and applications i noticed a constant hair dryer type sound coming from the fan and some serious hot air coming out the vent on the side.

Anyone have the same model and experiencing the same issue?

Thats shtty software. The dells don't push a lot of hot air unless you max a core in my experience. We had software like that...would peg a core at 100% meaning constant 25% CPU usage. One maxed core is enough to kick in the fans even in a boardroom with hectic aircon.

Depends on what he's doing with it. A Core i5 U-series chip isn't the best suited processor for heavy business workloads, which is something I had to deal with in my last laptop buyer's guide. The i5-4200M would have been a better performer.

Hook up a second monitor and run task manager and a temp monitoring app while he starts up his normal workload. If he's bogging down the CPU enough, it'll drop to 1.6GHz speeds and you'll see the heat and fan speed ramp up while its trying to keep the processor from melting. Even though that's a U-series chip, it's still based on Haswell and it still kicks out a lot of heat.

Even though programs and apps may appear to be idle, they still consume resources and will keep kicking the CPU out of idle to check on any work that may need to be done.
