Howdy,

One of the guys at work needed a laptop to do some powerpoint work on and the following morning he said the laptop went flat.

I plugged it in and turned on the laptop but the screen is dead. The power button keyboard back lights come on work and the HDD light flickers once or twice and that's about it. I can use the fn key to change the brightness of the back lit keys as well.

It's running Windows 7.

Any ideas / experience with what may be wrong with it?

I have a Dell E5540 at work which did exactly that. Also, when I changed the angle at which the lid was open, the display changed from black to white. Turns out it was the display's power inverter which died. The laptop was only a few weeks old.

Our IT phoned, and someone from the local Dell service centre came over later that day and repaired it right there on my desk. Apparently it's a common problem.

Ta, thanks for the feedback. Guess I'll have to courier it back to IT who can deal with it (Nearest DELL agent is a few thousand km's away).
