My 1.5TB external drive just kicked the bucket, no thanks to Eskom.

I have a large collection of videos and have the following storage left:
1 x 3 TB, 1 x 2TB and 1 x 1TB USB3.0 external drives
1 x 2 TB internal drive

I stream from my desktop with a SSD using dlna to my smart TVs, either using plex or serviio.

I can't decide what would be the best option for me:
Should I rather go for the Dell mini tower server and fill it with hard drives as I go on (and use FreeNAS)

or

Should I get a ready-made 4TB NAS

Suppose it depends on the amount of expansion/flexibility you want. The 4TB is cheaper than the stand alone PC you're looking at - not sure what the HP microservers go for- and the Dell doesn't come with any HDD. So you can add another +/-R800 to that price just to get something going. I'd rather save the cash and go for the freestanding NAS.

Pretty sure you'll be able to hack in bigger drives once you need it as the warranty should've expired by then as well.
