Tuesday sometime after lunch my Dell Latitude D820 started making strange lines across the screen. I rebooted, no change. I then fired up the Dell diagnostics and ran a check on the display. It did not find anything wrong, but many of the tests revealed the lines.

I have a 3 years next day onsite warranty so I called Dell. They lady on the phone was quite friendly, got the details of my problem and proceeded to talk me through reseating the display connector, this made no difference so she logged a call for an onsite technician. She made sure that he would bring a new LCD and motherboard.

Wednesday morning I received a confirmation call to say an engineer would be coming to my office. Shortly before lunch the technician arrived. He first swapped the LCD, but that made no difference. Swapping the motherboard did the trick.

So in less than 24 hours I had a fully operational machine again. Well done Dell!

Their support do rock. Server suppport is 4 hour turn around time.

Yup Dell Onsite +1

HP... Geeeeesh... you pay through the teeth for their next day business on-site...
Then, they do actually sometimes rock up the next day, but almost always take the notebook away and if you are lucky you get it back in the next week or two.

They could learn a LOT from Dell here.

I've always been a fan of Dell support. They have the best warranties going. Speaking of i wonder if there's any chance my broken Axim will be under warranty? I'm thinking not lol.

Their support is good because the stuff doesn't break which means their technicians are readily available. :D Just kidding.

As for HP... so much for next day service ... we had a PC sit here for 3 bloody months.

Yeah, Dell is by far the best at after sales support. Been using them for 12 years now and never had 1 issue.

Actually called them 1 day and reported a box of faulty drives, must have been about 30 of them. A day later they replaced the entire lot with brand new 73GB disks. Granted, we did have about 600 workstations and 2000 servers.

+1 for them aswell, I normally help out any users who are not familiar with the process of logging a call and no i don't charge'em :)

I have had HP & Acer come to the store and they did there job as was needed and never had to take the notebook or desktop away.
