Hi everyone,

I wonder if anyone can urgently assist me. I bought a Dell laptop and I received it yesterday. I set it up and used it last night, but I just tried to log in a few minutes ago and it states that my password is incorrect.

Does anyone know where I can take it in order for the password to be reset? I'm not sure why it does not recognise the password.

I'm based in Johannesburg, Sandton.

Thanks in advance.

To be honest with you, I don't know which password. I'm not tech savvy - I was requested to create username and a password during the set-up and I did so. I assume that this password is the one I enter after switching on the laptop? The user password, if that's what it's called.

I can see the "password hint" and that has not changed - it's the same hint I used when creating the password

When do you get prompted for the password? As soon as you switch the laptop on? Is Windows prompting for a password?

@gregmcc

Yes, as soon as I switch on the laptop.

Could either be a bios password but more likely a windows password.
Easiest would just be to reinstall the software but I'm guessing the Dell didn't come with any media.

Does the place you purchased it from have any support?

It didn't come with any media.

The support is between 08h00 and 17h00 - Monday to Friday.

If you install Windows 10 and connect it to the internet already can't you nowadays just request your it to be reset over the internet

Otherwise you have to use a boot program to reset the Admin password. Since you're not tech savvy you'll need someone technical to assist you with this

I found an Oprating System disc in the bag. "Windows 10 Home Single Language".

Is this what I use to reinstall Windows even though it states that it's already installed on my computer?
