Dell RAM Help

Dell Support based on my service tag claims that my maximum installed RAM can be 32GB.

BUT over here it says :

If your computer was shipped with an Intel®CoreTM i5 or Dual Core i7 processor, the maximum memory is 16GB, configured by inserting 8GB memory modules into the two DIMM slots in the bottom of your computer.

and my processor is listed in that list under Dual Core.

My processor is : Intel® Core™ i7-2640M CPU @ 2.80GHz × 4

So, is my max 16 or 32GB? Because the Dell Support page contradicts my product page.

And is my processor a Dual or Quad core? I was under the impression that it was a quad core. Or is it a hyperthreaded Dual Core thus the "x4"?

It is a dual core CPU. I didn't even know you get dual core i7's. But anyway, like the page you linked says, you are limited to 16 GB ram because of your CPU. If you had a quad core i7 you could go to 32 GB ram.

That's what I thought except now the problem is that only 2GB modules are available for my device so i can't upgrade any further?

Yes you can go up to 32gig, there is 4x dim slots (8gig each)

Please Note: the max speed for the ram would be 1333 if you use 4 dims and 32gig, when your run the ram at 1600, the max size is 16 then

I can go up to 16GB, only two of the slots are available for dual core processors.

A lot of laptops have dual core i7. It has to have HQ in the back for a quad core.
