Hi all! I need to get myself more organised for loadshedding given that I teach online. Currently I do have a ups but my issue is my Dell laptop battery needs to be replaced and I am concerned that after paying for it that it may not last the minimum 2.5 hours that one loadshedding session lasts. In which case I may be better off getting a new laptop because a replacement battery for my exact model will cost me R1600. That said my current laptop (a Dell Inspiron) is in good condition - it's nearly 4 years old so it still has a few years I reckon. So my main question is has anyone had experience with getting a replacement battery and the battery life thereof? I would imagine it is not as long as the original battery? Thanks in advance.

If you get an OEM battery directly from Dell it will be as good as it ever was and last just as long.

Goodluck however getting support from Dell after the warranty support has expired.

Thanks. Could I not get the battery from a computer store who can order it for me?

I am sure someone else would give better input here, but don't think you going to get an OEM battery from a computer store unless they are an Authorised Dell service centre or repair and parts shop.

I would definitely avoid any aftermarket product.

I can help you with after-market or original battery if it's still available. After-market you are looking at around +/-R795 including PostNet. Would need to confirm.

What is the model and part number and I can confirm for you.

After market is not worth it in my opinion.

Consider spending the money on an inverter then as long as your current battery is still useful to not cause issues.

Once OEM is not available, I would consider getting a new notebook.

Why I've sold so many and have never had a customer return a dud or complain that it failed after some time.

It's going to be mad expensive though.
Absolutely. My current battery from dell has a 3 year warranty though, on-site replace.

Goedkoop is duur koop.

OEM Batteries in general are not cheap. But I have learned over the years in the end it is worth it or get a new laptop with 3 years on site warranty and battery care.

Totally agree, Dell is just on another level with support. But for people surviving after-market is the only way.
