Dell revives XPS brand

Dell Technologies is bringing back its well-regarded XPS laptop brand after discontinuing it last year, as a top executive said the PC business had “gotten a bit off course.”

The high-end XPS series had been a mainstay on tech reviewers’ laptop best-of lists when Dell announced last January that it would be moving to simpler naming conventions.

Are you guys not allowed to uninstall apps on Apple?

SupportAssistant is fine. Dell Optimizer is the one that wrecks havoc.
Can't uninstall it even on Windoze.
Dell Supportassistant triggers a BSOD. Updating the app doesn't actually update it. Can't uninstall it because it needs the offline installer of the installed version which Dell doesn't make available for download. Madness

Found Dell Optimizer easy to uninstall on my Precision :)

Remember that @Smiggles only trust what Copilot tells him. However, he is referring to Support Assist. I'm not sure why he would uninstall it though as its part of the recovery environment for Dell and available in the pre-boot.

The initial XPS 14 is priced at $2,050 (R33,482) while the XPS 16 is $2,200 (R35,932).

Additional versions of the two laptops, including those priced at less than $2,000, will be available in February, Dell said.
Too rich for my blood.

The two notebooks, which will compete directly with Apple’s 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air, similarly have aluminium enclosures, compact designs and slim bezels around the display.
Not at those prices.

These precisions and xps machines are beautiful and extremely powerful tech for their form factor. But from my experience ( @Dave shutup, mind your own business :p ) they suffer from dell firmware issues and inheritably (english?) heating issues. The issues usually start after a year of intense use. Without Dell Onsite Warranty and Support program it can quickly become a very expensive brick.

I wish dell had better out of warranty support in SA and I wish they had less buggy software and firmware / windows 11 issues.

Good to see them back and yes they were a bit lost over the last few years.
I really enjoyed my XPS 13 and 15 (around 2017 models I think).
They need to make high quality but simple devices. No fancy touch pad, no capacitive buttons, needs decent amount of ports, etc.

I find the difference between the Dell Premium laptops and Apple Premium laptops is that in the used/demo market the Dells with 3 year warranty you can sometimes get at 50% or more cheaper than their retail price, while Apple Premium devices the difference between new and demo is much smaller. e.g. My current Precision 5690 came from a Dell Warranty Replacement from a Precision 5550 that cost around R25000. I've tried to find similar deals with Apple but havent seen something. Currently extending the Dell Warranty so it is covered for a couple more years as I have badluck and cursed when it comes to tech.

I'm not one for buying used tech though I do admittedly make an exception when it comes to Apple's Refurbished line because they're indistinguishable from new. New screen, new chassis, new battery, new everything as far as I can tell, and at a nice discount.

Maybe I made a mistake of not extending applecare but I didn't expect this machine to be pulling its weight after five years so I ended up paying for my screen replacement out of pocket. Of course I could have insured it as well.

When it is mid to budget devices I buy new. But with these laptops that cost 90K+ I can't do that, not with the state of the building industry anyways, or my lack of being able to do better financially.

Might not be for out-of-warranty... but they do, if you buy new from the right distributor.
