Hi all

Just wanted to check with you on something, Can the Dell Sonic Wall do URL filtering ? so i can see what my users are up to ?

Can it also block webpages like torrents and p0rn and so on ?

not to sharp when it comes to firewalls so just need your input as to what can this device do

Yes to both but it is klunky :-(

To see what your users are up to you will need to purchase the UMT? monitoring appliance (free version no longer available after the Dell purchase afaik)

Ahhh just as i imagined can they not just make something decent !
what would you suggest i use to monitor bandwidth ? i dont mind buying if its good and easy to use

I guess its alright - although i use the built in windows ras vpn.Simpler and cleaner

Yes all MS server operating systems have it ..its called RRAS (routing and remote access services)

Have a look at Fortigates. They might be a bit more expensive but in my opinion they are worth it and give a nice view of who's trying to get to one site.

Also FortiCloud offers an option to be able to view this information from anywhere

The SonicWALL definitely has this capability - there is reporting suite called Analyzer which you run on the network for enhanced granularity if required, it is a once-off purchase. The unit can do HTTP and HTTPS filtering in the traditional sense but for intelligent content filtering (restricting by category - like torrents, gambling, social, etc) you will need the Comprehensive Gateway Security Suite to be active. This is an annual license - same licensing model as any enterprise UTM appliance.
