Wow, this monitor's review and specs are so awesome! So much better than the U2412m...

The usual:
24", 1920x1200

But also..

  • HDMI, Displayport, and DVI inputs
  • Wide gamut
  • 4x USB3
  • 9-in-1 card reader
  • The PWM has been improved, there is no flicker at all at 20%, 50% and 100% brightness, and the frequency is very high at 8750Hz

As PostmanPot already knows :p, I wasn't keen on getting the U2412m due to potential flickering... :erm:
But this monitor is looking very promising... :D

Has anyone seen it available here in SA?

The 2413 is not an alternative to the 2412, it is rather a replacement for the 2410 in the low-end professional sector. The main differences for you will be:

Cost (if you can get one)

The 2413 is made to help in supporting a full 10 bit front-to-end workflow (of both hardware and software). It is very rare to find this on a private PC.

The 2413 supports a wide colour gamut. This is especially useful for prepress. This only works properly in colour managed software like the better image editors. With other software that is not colour managed, e.g. web browsers, it simply results in over-saturated colours (think of a cartoon).

The 2413 is a good monitor to get if you are setting up a dedicated editing workstation. If you have a more general purpose machine it will not be a good idea. One workaround on the more general machine is to go dual monitor, with a 2413 for editing and a standard gamut monitor for the rest.

I have two of the 2412s and fortunately do not have the flickering problem (something that I am sensitive to).

Somthing like the U2413 was out of my budget, and I bought a U2412m.

I am VERY happy with the U2412m, and I am very sensitive to flickering, etc. Luckily I didn't know of this potential issue before I bought it!

Ps. I notice the difference in phosphuar decays on most plasma displays, which causes a rainbow effect. Same for DLP projectors, they drive me nuts. So I think I am quite sensitive to many display issues, and with my U2412m I haven't noticed any problems.

Specs look good but ya that it not going to be cheap..

I also have 2x U2412ms and they are perfect, no more flickering than any other LCD in my house.

Ah, the U2413... wanted to buy it, but faced a severe lack of stock when looking. Settled on the U2211 (after my purchase of the U2311 fell through).

The U2413 is highly rated, and if you can find one, I would highly recommend it. But what would you be using it for?

After calibration I don't see why it's not a good idea.

I would also like to know how this monitor performs for gaming.

I find it perfect and I play BF3 quite a bit.

Programming and the likes, mostly. But also FPS gaming.

Does anyone have bad ghosting with these Dell UltraSharp monitors?
There is a bad video on youtube for the U2413: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yk2cWMkPlG4

Wouldn't recommend this for FPS gaming- seems like the response time is slightly too low, which is normal, given what it is intended for. Would recommend it for everything else though, it is an excellent monitor. But pricey, and if some motion blur is a dealbreaker, I would suggest something else.

Ah, thanks MJ.

Then I'll rather stick with my Samsung SyncMaster P2450 for the time being, until Samsung has released their 2013 monitor range.

Think I saw one of their new monitors on WootWare, so nice that it has USB hub built into the monitor stand. Will move my wireless keyboard and mouse Transceiver to the monitor hub when I get one, as at the moment it's plugged in at the back of my pc and I sometimes experience lag on the keyboard.

Given your current monitor, you will notice the lag (going from a TN panel to an IPS panel). But the difference in picture quality will be even more striking, and you find it hard to go back to anything less.

The USB hub idea- feel like kicking myself, I should have done that! My wireless mouse keeps lagging in Ubuntu, never thought to place the receiver there... Thanks! :D
