Dell XPS 17" vs MacBook Pro 17"

I'm having a hard time trying to decide between the two. The price difference is 10k and I don't know if the MacBook is worth it.

The primary use will be to develop applications using Visual Studio, SQL Server etc. Run a few VMs, the Android SDK and emulator.

Don't think it'll be used for gaming as I have an Xbox and gaming PC, but who knows.

So, what would you do?

I actually have a MacBook Pro and I wouldn't recommend it for what you want to do. I'd buy a mid spec machine and upgrade the RAM to max. You need a decent CPU that supports hardware virtualization and truckloads of RAM for to allow multiple VM's. A good size hard drive will also be needed. Fancy graphics is not really needed.

One reason for going MacBook would be the phenomenal battery life, but I don't think that's worth 10k.

Yes but from the sounds of it, you'll be spending the majority of your time in windows, I can't see a valid reason to justify considering the MacBook at such a large price difference? If you really need Lion, build a Hackintosh
