Dell XPS M1730 upgrade

Hi ppl

I want to upgrade my Dell machine.

My current specs as follows:
Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 (2.4Ghz)
4GB DDR2 667Mhz ram
2x 256MB SLI Geforce 8800M GTX (SLI)
2x 120GB Hdrives (RAID0)
17inch Wide screen

What is the biggest harddrives, single or in Raid that i can put in my lappy.
CPU upgrade
GPU upgrade
RAM upgrade if its possible

I think the only thing you can upgrade on that machine is the HDD.
I also believe the 8800gtx are 512 cards each.
Get yourself an alienware if u wanna upgrade.
 
Alienware is way out of my budget. I would be crazy to spend that kinda cash in this recession period. I paid under 10k for mine.

I was thinking the hard drives first and then maybe the cpu.

GPU plays about every game i can think of.

Of course you can upgrade the CPU on that machine, it's just fairly tricky to do. With that being said, it's not something I would bother with anyway, since any upgrade won't have that big a performance increase and I would personally rather put the money towards a new laptop.

First, I'd replace those 120GB drives with something a bit more modern and with lower seek times and faster R/W speeds. Western Digital Blue or Black drives would work really well.
RAM would be next on my list, if you feel that it is required, but honestly, 4GB should be enough for pretty much anything.
I think you'll end up struggling a bit to upgrade the graphics cards and besides, a SLI setup of 8800M GTX's isn't that far from the top anyway, so I wouldn't bother.

you can get 2X 500gb harddrives or ssd
Ram should be fine

is you chipset a santa rosa ??? I have a T9300
 
Just dump in a SSD, it will give the biggest apparent boost to your current laptop, and you will be able to easily carry it over to your next laptop if required.
 
how do i find that out and where do i check.

Ps How do you know it can take a 500GB. is that single 500GB or Raid0 2x 250GB or 2x 500GB?

Would appreciate your feedback
 
how much does the current SSD drives go aroung for now, locally and internationally (ebay)
64GB,128GB,256GB - Does the brand also make a huge difference
