India's election had a 700 mil people voting, aprox 70% of the population. It took a month or so , total madness Id imagine :>
I lived in China for three years, and most people I know there have absolutely no problem with the current arrangement.

I think the so-called Western Democracy Model will not work in every country. Look at what's happening to Iraq, Afghanistan.etc.
Every country should have their own ways to manage themselves, which should be the choice of the people, not some idealistic which may be conflicting with the local cultures from some other country who would like to play police everyday.

Correct, and just like Saudi Barbaria, it's not necessarily the style of rule that's the issue, but the human rights abuse and other atrocities.Almost like the Saudis

Just educate me, what culture does Iraq, Afghanistan and China etc. have that will conflict with democracy?

Democracy is a joke if you're refering to the system in SA. I'd rather have a good, competent monarchy any day.
I think you looking at democracy wrong if you looking at the total number! Democracy works on a smaller scale working upwards, so multiple voting stations/sectors reduce the load to a manageable amount.
The total number of people means very very little. In SA we have the problem that stations are not always placed ideally sometimes and more problematic people don't follow instruction and try and vote where they feel like.(which messes up ballot allocation)

I just pulled that figure out of thin air actually. Don't really know the age demographics in China and no where will the entire population vote (due to the under-18s). So while I might not have been correct, I doubt you are.
Come on people... they'd need to cut down the bloody Amazon for all the paper they'd use. Oh - and don't give me the "electronic voting" bollocks. That would never work properly (it will be implemented eventually, but... every system is breakable)...

Pretty offensive to think other cultures are below basic human liberties. Then again you're just copping out. You'd change your tune if it was "South African culture" to enslave you and take your liberties away :erm:
