Denel has collapsed to a level where it is barely functioning

A beautiful GLM success story if ever I saw one!

while its all collapsed its an opportunity for some countries to use Denel as a shopping cart,
I mean North Korea, China, Iran and Ukraine with its defense industry bombed to bits could benefit from simply taking anything they like or hiring ex-Denel employees at this point.

not to mention Israel, but we already did that ;-)
is there anything more to take?

Most of the good talent is long gone, a lot to Israel, and even more to the USA, where they now are developing the equipment they designed, and are making probably some of the best systems in the world. SA used to be capable of manufacturing all the electronics the military used, from the screws, cases and printed circuit boards, and then the parts that went on them, up to pretty complex microprocessors and software, along with even the connectors they needed if they were not available as a common part.

I remember replacing the original parts with the local part, and it came in at better quality and stability over the original one, and it worked better as well, much less adjustment to get it to be exactly in the middle of the parameter set. today i doubt there is any of that left, they can only order parts from the OEM, and hope to get it, as they no longer have the skills to rebuild or repair equipment now.

They went from a world class leader in ammunition production, to now having to import 9mm ammunition for SAPS, because they lost the ability to produce it locally in any meaningful volume, as they lost the people that knew how to operate, calibrate and maintain the production plant.

It is not just the design and manufacturing capability. Denel has a range of maintenance contracts for SANDF equipment (e.g. aircraft). A loss of capability could also impact on current force readiness.

All good Denel guys already work in UAE, not much worth is left.

I thought the motorbike display was simply awe inspiring, when I got home that day I took my mountain bike and made some ramps and set fire to them and spent a fun 20 minutes jumping through flames. The neighbours kids joined in and it really brought us all together. I even took out my old Daisy gun and we took some shots at the local street chickens to hone our sniper skills.

I did set fire to the car port a bit but it was well worth it as now I know what it feels like to be a highly trained and highly skilled SANDF operative....

The Association of Nyope Boys in my area had better watch out now....

At one point we supplied the world with cutting edge technology, our targeting systems, for example, were considered some of the best in the world. Today I doubt Denel still has a single patented technology that hasn't been sold to dodgy countries a dozen times over.
