My dentist has retired. There is a new young one, but I suspect she is one of those who want to extract all your teeth and replace them with porcelain and titanium. She does botox as well :wtf: My teeth are prefectly fine as they are.

Can anyone recommend a competent dentist in Pretoria Old East please? I also don't want one of those that charge far in excess of my Medical Aid's PMBs and I have to pay in. I am on the top tier of my med aid as it is.

Can highly recommend Dr Sik at Menlyn Med.

More new east than old east though.

I have used Dr Van der Merwe at Faerie Glen hospital, haven't been there in a while.

There is a Dentist in Groenkloof centre opposite Little Company of Mary. Female dentist and her daughter as her receptionist. I just can't recall her damn name...

Dr Cilius van der Merwe at Faerie Glen Hospital, or Dr Susan Nel at the Brooklyn Dens Dental Studio.

Dr. JJ Oosthuysen @ Constantia Medicross. I'm still trying to convince him to install a TV in the ceiling above the chair.

Slightly off topic, but I was with Dr. Kruger not too long ago, who has a TV like that. So I'm in the chair, getting comfortable, and of course, there's a documentary on the habits of spiders. I don't know what terrified me more, the drill or the entertainment.

Sorry to revive this thread, but anyone has updates on dentist recommendations? Dr Kruger, who received 2 votes above, closed his practice.

Thank you for your input, are their pricing in line with the medical aid PMB?

No, they charge more than what medical aids cover, and they don't submit accounts themselves, so you have to pay them directly and then claim back from your medical aid yourself. That is the case with many dentists however, considering the (arguably unreasonably) small amounts that medical aids are willing to cover for dentistry. But indeed, dentists at places like Intercare probably charge medical aid rates.

One of the things that I like about these dentists is that, for a routine visit, they offer the option that you make an appointment with their dental hygienist, not the dentist. The hygienist then cleans your teeth and checks that everything is in order (including taking X-rays if necessary). Only if she spots a problem do you then need to make an appointment with the dentist. This helps to keep down costs. With good dental hygiene at home, one would normally only need your teeth cleaned by the hygienist every six months and there usually shouldn't be any more substantial problems with your teeth that would require treatment by an actual dentist.

When I was there a few months ago, the cost to see their hygienist was about R 1200 for a consultation of about one hour (including a full set of X-rays). She was very thorough and her equipment seems very modern.

Just to clarify, Hemi300c and I are referring to different dentists.
