Chris Hani's killer Clive Derby-Lewis has been diagnosed with cancer and is also at risk of losing his leg to gangrene.

On Tuesday, Derby-Lewis won an urgent court order to be admitted to a private hospital after he apparently injured his leg falling over a bed frame. After three weeks of not receiving medical treatment, he turned to the North Gauteng High Court and was taken to an undisclosed hospital.

His lawyer Marius Coertze said he received more bad news than he expected.

"He has quite severe skin cancer on the face; he also has very high blood pressure and he also has gangrene in the leg," said Coertze.

Derby-Lewis will remain in hospital for the time being. He is busy campaigning for parole and it remains to be seen whether his medical condition will affect the process.

I'm no fan of CDL but if Shabby can get released on medical grounds for high blood pressure , what justification is there in not releasing CDL on medical parole ?

He should have been executed back in the day for Murder. So yeah... I have little sympathy for him if his leg rots off or if he dies an agonising death from cancer in a cell. His victim was given no options when he shot him in cold blood. Let him rot.

What about the person behind the murder ?

Gvdh, agreed apart from the execution bit - but based on the Shabby parole is their not a legitimate justification for similar clemency ?

The justification is there, unfortunately for Clive he has to suffer weeks of not having medical treatment for such a serious condition as he has no corrupt relationship with the current prez.

So Gary, you recon he should have been shot for his murder yet that scum McBride is walking around freely? How do you justify that?

Yes, him too.

Yes, put a rope around McBride's neck as well and send him for a long walk off a short pier.

I'd rather see him rot in prison. I'd have rather seen Shaik rot in prison too, but let's not start letting them all out because of the ANC's crony-saving...

I just read the full article and unfortunately for CDL, he doesn't appear to have high blood pressure, so he'll never qualify for medical parole. Every witch doctor knows that high blood pressure is far worse than gangrene and skin cancer...

agreed.
i was in an armed holdup last year. the guys tied us up, stole our valuables and held us on the floor while threatening our lives, for about an hour.
if you plan to kill a defenceless person and go through with it, spending the rest of your life in jail is a gift you don't deserve.

Derby-Lewis did not shoot Hani.

One is a murderer, one is a fraudster. The seriousness of the crime varies between the two.

If I had things my way, there would be no leniency at all. They both belong in prison.

Lindt make a nice variety of dark choccies. :)
I've seen, chilli, caramel, salt, and orange - they'd make a killing in SA if they added beetroot and garlic to their variety.

They have chocolates with 85% cocoa ... excellent for blood pressure if eaten in moderation.
