Derek Wilcocks is the CEO of Dimension Data Middle-East and Africa.
Derek Wilcocks was appointed Managing Director in October 2009. He joined the Dimension Data Group in 1995 as founding Managing Director of Internet Solutions' subsidiary, Trusted Network Solutions, and joined Internet Solutions a year later (1996), becoming a board member.
Derek has held numerous executive positions during his sixteen years with the Group. In 2001, he was appointed Executive: Strategy & Technology for Dimension Data Middle East & Africa. Derek was a key figure in steering Dimension Data Middle East & Africa through the 2002/03 ICT sector downturn, and also in developing and executing the Group’s growth strategy post this period, which has delivered seven years of year on year growth.
During this period Derek was also responsible for Dimension Data’s Black Economic Empowerment and Corporate Social Investment initiatives.
In 2006, he assumed the position of Services Executive for the region, and was instrumental in growing a highly successful three billion rand annuity and managed services business model. BMI-T recognised Dimension Data as South Africa’s largest IT services organisation each year from 2008-2010.
Derek is passionate about the difference ICT can make to developing countries, and has delivered talks on this subject in South Africa, Nigeria, Namibia, Burkina Faso and Kenya. Besides his role at Internet Solutions, Derek is currently on the Executive Committee of Dimension Data Middle East & Africa and a board member of Dimension Data (Pty) Ltd.
Derek holds the following qualifications: B.Econ.Sc; B.Sc (Hons) (Computer Science) (University of the Witwatersrand); Executive Program in Strategy and Organisation (Stanford); Postgraduate Professional Course in Corporate Finance (University of London).
