Item wanted: Desk top PC for operating our POS in bar. Prefer i3/i5 CPU with 4mb RAM and 500 mB HDD. Essential to have Parallel and Ethernet ports and Win 10 installed.
Is packaging essential:No
Desired age and condition:Prefer new but will consider used.
Location: Required Hartbeespoort dam area
Willing to accept a shipped item: Yes

Before you continue. I'm not sure how well versed you are with IT, but I would like to under line a few things in your post.

4mb RAM - no computer on the planet has this in this generation, I'm sure you meant 4GB Ram
500mb HDD - same as ram, you probably meant 500GB HDD
Parallel ports - I'm not sure how common it is to find this port in todays computers, I work in IT and haven't seen one in a while. You probably need this for your receipt printer. Have you thought about possibly getting a newer Receipt printer that works of the USB interface? here is a reasonable option on takealot: https://www.takealot.com/4pos-58mm-thermal-receipt-printer-usb/PLID45212169
There are more options available, this was just the cheapest.

Okay, okay. We all know what he meant. :p

OP should be able to get hold of a USB to Parallel adapter, or perhaps even a card with the relevant port. Pretty sure they still make some boards with said port though.
 
Hello Ariz04, many thanks for your response. Yes my old age coupled with finger trouble got the numbers screwed up but you did understand me correctly. And yes the parallel port is to drive the ancient printer and the one reason for posting my enquiry here was just to establish if indeed it would still be possible to find a box with such a port. Obviously if all else fails we will be updating to a newer receipt printer like the one offered on Takealot.

Install a serial card. Much cheaper than a new POS printer.
 
If your printer is still good then getting a normal i3 from your local PC store coupled with a USB to parallel port converter should do the trick. As finding a PC with a parallel port already installed might not be the easiest option, and depending on how old the PC is, might not be the most reliable option either.

I'm not sure on the availability of these converters though as I'm on my way to hospital, I can check and get back to you later today, or if you want you can do a quick Google search for USB to parallel converter.
