DeskJet Laser Printer

I am wondering if any of you could offer advise on a replacement unit for my existing Hewlett Packard DeskJet 1020 printer. I find this printer battles to print scanned pdf files and so am looking for one which will not cause the spooler service on Windows Vista or Windows 7 to crash. I would prefer a printer where I am not required to use thrid party software for printing the PDF files, such as Fine Print.

My requirements are as such:
Black & White lazer
Less than R1 000
USB
all PDF supported
Windows Vista & Windows 7 compatible

One downside of buying HP again is bloatware. I need a simple Windows 7 driver for a combined HP printer/scanner and it will consume a vast chunk of my monthly data cap to download it! Grrrrr. HP drivers can also bring down an otherwise bulletproof computer, as I just found with a netbook which could withstand pretty much anything -- until I installed the HP software and it ground to a total standstill. You'd think they would have taken note of all the customer complaints by now and done some liposuction on their obese software!

Thanks people, I was hoping for something like - Samsung / Epson / OKI, but guess no-one buys such cheap printers - best to stick with pricier ones. I know the feeling Terencek.
