I was having an argument about this with my friend I said it's better to game on a PC and he said it's equal. He then asked me why, and I didn't have a good enough info and it's made me thought... Which one is better and why? Is the average PC better gaming wise than Laptop?

If you consider the Price to Performance ratio, a desktop PC wins a laptop hands down. Mobility is one of the great pro's of a laptop.
Also, it's easier and less expensive to upgrade and replace components on a PC.

its only equal if you have a 10k - 25k laptop. which is pretty stupid . pc gaming will always beat any platform, screen size , performance vs price wise , the list is almost endless ! one very awesome and super great thing about laptops is the plug out and fold up and go , no need to plug out your stuff and put it in bags and cases and loading the car full of stuff.
Laptops are just more expensive for the same thing. They are designed for different things. So, it depends on what type of gaming. If you had the same amount of money to spend on either a laptop or desktop, you would get a more powerful desktop. But good luck using your desktop on a plane.

Laptops lose....doesn't even matter at what price point. Can't cool them for sht. Miniaturizing components make them expensive. Less benefit from economies of scale. Laptop hdds suck. Everything is spec'd to minimize power use, not performance. Competition isn't on a component level. etc....it just sucks all-round...unless you need mobility. (Hey kinda like 3G)

Used a Toshiba Qosmio x305 for gaming with built in SLI, 17" screen and 2 x 250 gig hd's striped. Got it on a special at Mecer for R15K about 3 years back.
Was grate for gaming when I was moving around allot. I even ran it dual screen. But I must admit, if you buying something for playing games and you not planing on being mobile get a desktop. Was a pain to take it on the plain all the time, Just the laptop+power in Europe was over the normal carry on weight, but still better than a desktop with a separate screen.
If I didn't need to buy something that was mobile I would have gotten allot more bang for my buck.
Now back on a PC.

I've had this argument a few times and this is just my opinion.
For the cost of a decent gaming laptop you can buy a good gaming pc and a decent laptop.
As others have said its going to cost you 10-20k for a gaming laptop and it wont be a good as say a 10k pc.
