Desktop icons appearing incorrectly

My desktop icons have started appearing with an overlay - I can see original icon behind this overlay but cannot get rid of it - can someone help
I can e-mail you a screenshot of the problem - but cant seem to display it here

Go to user CP at the top of the screen, create an album, upload the pic, copy the address at the top of the sceen where the pic is and then past that address into a Reply over here on this thread
