Hey guys,

I'm hoping for some advice about how much and where I can get the following box made up, and also whether this spec is decent enough for a photo-editing environment; my photoshop crawls on my dual core.

So I was thinking... a quad core could be cool or maybe a core i-3 or 5? 4GB RAM, 1.5TB HDD, a DVDRW and something with a gazillion USB ports.

What do you guys think? And what's a reasonable budget to look at for this spec?

Thanks!

M

Hello

Well I found that a quad-core is a real booster for things like that. I have a Q9300 quad-core but cant find them anymore so you can go with the Q8300 or Q8400. They are a little cheaper than the higher range intel CPUS and can be found for about R1400 - R1600 otherwise go with the I5 series cpus for roughly the same price.
Ram and Hard drive prices are pretty standard everywhere. Motherboard wise if you are not going to overclock or anything you can get a cheap intel motherboard for about R700 - R800. I have a cheap R700 motherboard and a R3000 motherboard and unless you overclock and stuff like that it wont make a difference.
Check
www.bethesda.co.za they supply pc parts not sure if they sell to the public but you can compare your prices there. Just add 14% for tax to the prices

Get yourself a i5 750, a cheap h55h board and 2x2g ddr3. It will cost about R3000 in total if you get the ram from kalahari.net for R510.
