Desktop Support (MCAD) Application Engineer

The position will focus on the support and servicing of our customer base with Helpdesk and pro-active support via telephone, e-mail and remote connection. The incumbent will be within a matrix systems with our two other departments (Software Sales Business Unit and Services Business Unit), the incumbent will also be involved with pre-sales demos and presentation of training to customers.


• Matric + BSC / BIT Degree/ B.Eng, B.Tech Degree or National Diploma / S4, in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical training
• 1 - 4 years in a mechanical design environment with some industry experience of CAD
• Solid IT foundation
Experience on the following will be advantageous:
o Exposure to CAD, PLM or other Enterprise Software implementations and integration desirable
o A working understanding of Solid Works / CATIA / VariCAD / Inventor
o Knowledge of process modelling techniques and tools.
o A good understanding of manufacturing processes and how that relates to CAD design.
o Proficient with configuration control and software installation practices.
o Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD or MCPD) advantageous
• Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, including both formal and informal presentations
• Telephonic support skills
• Good technical writing skills.
• Able to work in a very dynamic, customer facing environment
• A thorough knowledge of Desktop/Laptop hardware and end-user level peripherals a must.
• Very strong problem solving and analytical skills and should be a methodical and systemic thinker.
• Understand customer service and service delivery.
• The ideal candidate will demonstrate a history of proactive orientation towards troubleshooting, problem solving, and quick thinking with a sense of urgency and priority.
