The Desktop Support Engineer’s (DSE’s) role is to provide a single point of contact for end users to receive support and maintenance within the organization's desktop computing environment. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and equipment (including but not limited to PC, terminals, printers and other peripherals) to ensure optimal workstation performance.
The person will also troubleshoot problem areas (in person, by telephone, or via remote access) in a timeously and accurate fashion, and provide end-user assistance where required.
This job requires that the employee maintains the highest level of Honesty and Integrity as the incumbent will have access to company assets, cash handling and confidential record storage areas. This requires that a formal personal background check is undertaken.
This is an intermediate position, and requires you have 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role. Relevant qualifications (i.e. MCSA) will be beneficial.
Duties include:

  • Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices via the IT Helpdesk.
  • Perform installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting on branch auction hardware, such as sound equipment, televisions and networks.
  • Perform general preventative maintenance tasks on all IT equipment and any other authorised peripheral equipment.
  • Attend to branch visits when required.
  • Request and co-ordinate vendor support.
  • Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Administer all equipment, hardware and software upgrades.
  • Ensure network connectivity of all workstations.
  • Perform system backups and recovery.
  • Provide backup and support to System Engineers when required.
  • Ensure due process is followed with regards to maintenance of all IT asset metadata)
  • Perform first-line application support, and referring issues to developer resources in the event that the request is outside the scope of the DSE.
