Which should I get?

I don't see any point in getting the desktop modem over the smaller USB one. I will be the only person using the modem, and if push came to shove I could setup internet sharing so the ethernet port is useless. You have to plug it in so it takes and a wall sockets and is less mobile than the USB counterpart.

Ps. I would get an antenna in either case reception shouldn't be any different?

Rather acquire a PCMCIA card...

Well if nobody else is gong to use it, free up your USB ports by using a PCMCIA card with an external notebook antenna, also you will have less cables running from your machine.

As for reception, the UTD (older type is best) does deliver a better reception than the UTC or UTU.

I used to think that way, until I got a wireless-enabled phone and laptop. Now I'm glad I had the option.

The desktop modem is more versatile than the usb one in my opinion.

It has the ethernet port which means you can plug it into a wireless gateway or even an xbox 360 or something...just my 2c

Well if you are sure you aren't going to need Ethernet, then USB is fine.

If you use an antenna then your UTx doesn't affect signal. Also, do you have a laptop? if so who.is.micheal's advise might apply, but most people don't have PCMCIA slots in their PC you know.. :p

Oh, I am right about that signal thing right? I was pretty sure that the antenna takes over from the UTx for getting signal if you use one.

Also, the USB one is cheaper.

No notebook/laptop.

Am I correct in assuming that both the desktop modem & the USB modem have the same connectors when it comes to installing a omni-directional antenna?
