Dessert Wines

I'm definitely more of a port guy myself.

Du Toitskloof Muscadel readily available, well priced (About R50.00) and is up amongst the best around.

I need recommendations

It is imperative that it not be a sissy wine. The wine to puke to in KZN was Paarl Perle. Failing that, the trusty standby – ‘Old Brown Sherry’.

However, real men go for Lala Palm wine. The national drink of rural Zululand. Made from the fermented ‘heart’ of the Lala Palm. Takes your head off and leaves a blinding hangover.

South African "port" is just plain nasty - sorry. :o

I've had both the Marsala and one of those Muscadels you mentioned (I forget which one!) and they are all good. Especially the Muscadel.

OT: The Cape Wine Academy offers courses (diploma or certificate) as well as international tastings.

It's just around the corner from us, but I think the price is a bit steep! See here - http://www.capewineacademy.co.za/

I also enjoy some of the fortified products from the Oranjerivier Ko-operasie ....

That's why I stay away from them!

Dunno hey, we polished 3 bottles of www.stableswine.co.za port one night while in the midlands between three of us and we we're all fine the next morning. Was actually scared to lift my head off the pillow the next morning but it turned out fine for all involved.

Wasn’t Lala palm wine. They don’t sell it in shops or bottles. You take your own container. And you WILL get a hangover and maybe upchuck sick.

Port comes from Portugal.

ooh, look how sophisticated we are :p

I know Port comes from Portugal just like Champagne comes from France & Sherry from Spain etc, what's your point?

Do you want me to refer to it as fortified wine rather in which case many people would not have a clue what I'm referring to or the type of fortified wine?

These names are registered brands (like our Rooibos tea) which are not supposed to be used outside the country/region of origin, yet everyone uses those names regardless of origin.

Ah, it's Monday, maybe that explains it.
