I have bought a Vodafone K3765 usb modem (R399 once-off from Game stores) and have a prepaid Voda SIM in it loaded with a data bundle.

I have two computers, a Dell Precision M90 laptop, and a Mecer Desktop, both running WinXP - SP3.

1) On the laptop, I installed the software, which works fine, but use Ginngs' MDMA dash ... works perfectly.

2) On the desktop PC it does not detect the modem at all. Have tried uninstalling / reinstalling the software many times. Neither the Vodafone dash software, nor MDMA detects the modem.

Please .... Any pointers for me to get the K3765 to be detected by the PC?

Try using the rear USB ports. Also check for a BIOS update for the motherboard.

I tried Ginggs' suggestion above, i.e. using the rear ports (there are two USB ports at the rear), instead of the other two front-mount USB ports.
Still no success.

In the boot screen the BIOS is stated as:
AMIBIOS Ver. 0402
Build date: 11/06/08

Processor is: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7500, 2.93GHz.
Installed memory is: 2048MB

What does hardware manager show? Any unknown devices on the USB ports? Have you tried unplugging all other USB devices first?

Ok .. thanks to the advice above, from Ginggs & ajax, I have mananged to get the USB modem detectable, and working, by using one of the four rear USB ports on the PC. The other three rear USBs still don't allow detection. But they are working as the keyboard, mouse, and a scanner, are plugged into those other 3 ports, and they all work fine.

It's a tight fit back there ... :o and the K3765 USB modem would not fit. So I just plugged in a short (0,5m) USB extension cable, and plugged the modem into the other end of that. It now detects the USB modem and works just fine.

Thanks a lot for you guidance & help.

I assume this mean my front-mounted USB ports are underpowered? I thought that a USB port was a USB port ... But it seems the K3765 needs a bit more power that the front USB ports can supply. I learn something every day :)

The front USB ports are connected to your motherboard by a length of cable, the quality of these cables vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.
You may find they work fine for with a camera (with it's own battery power) or a flash drive, but not with anything requiring a bit more power.
