Any ideas of how to do it? I'm looking into a cheap (ie free, student :P) solution into some low signal issues.

I am on the 8ta internet5 deal, but I have fairly weak signal from where my dongle (Huawei E367) is located, around -90dBm.

I downloaded a bunch of apps on my HTC Desire in order to check which towers my sim card is connecting to, which works for my MTN sim card but not for 8ta. I have the proper settings and can connect to the internet normally, the apps NetMonitor, Sensorly and Antennas just cannot seem to give any info on towers with my 8ta simcard inserted.

Knowing the location of a few nearby towers would be really useful, so that i can move my dongle to have better LoS and reception. I am in Hatfield, Pretoria.

Thanks

Hi

Lucky for you 8.ta uses MTN towers so your closest MTN tower is where your signal will come from….

Check out below link and search for Hatfield, Pretoria ( I cannot tell if you in 2G or 3G from the colour key, Very useless.)

cheers

That will only show coverage, I do have coverage in my area.

I want to know physical coordinates of the towers my dongle is connecting to

Remember that on the 8ta internet deals they remove your MTN roaming and you can only use actual 8ta towers.

If you can get your hands on an android device you can use OpenSignal to find the towers you're connecting to.

Nice hint on OpenSignal, thanks. I searched for it and the website below has tower locations:

(click Tower Map on the RHS)

Sucky though - doesn't show 8ta towers.
