No there's no standard way.

Some thoughts however:
A lot of web development companies leave a trace on all the websites they do (to get more business), things like "designed by xxx....". This is normally quite small and found on the footer.

Investigative Googleing:
Most web development companies have a "Portfolio Page" of some sorts, where they link to all the sites they've done. With some cleaver Google searches you might be able to find this page and link it back to the company.

Check HTML source code for comments:
Who knows you could get lucky...

+1 look in the source code in the meta tags or just ask the webmaster, I have to ask why? :)

Yeah I have tried the source code and google portfolio method and both couldn't give me a result. I was hoping there may be an alternative way, that I am not aware of.
Nonetheless thanks for the feedback.

Name and ... uhm ... non-shame! You're creating some very friendly advertising for a dev or two here. Well, at least until someone comments ons something they don't like. :)

Yes sometimes I catch the big name developers with big portfolios contracting out on scriptlance. If you know what the subject matter is you can do a search

Ah you see, you're making a fundamental mistake when you use the term "website developer" and then immediately refer to the design of the website... huge difference.

What you're looking for is the website designer of a particular site, so that might be the reason why you can't find any info on the site domain when googling it...?

Tip: try checking out the whois on http://co.za (if local) and check out who registered/for any comments etc. Best is just to contact the site owner... unless you want to be a "genius" and rip off their entire design AS IS (which could open up some interesting debate on copyright and such) but yea...

developer <> designer
