Dell Latitude D620 got two devices that pop up on device manager under "Other devices" as "Data Interface"

Details:
USB\VID_413C&PID_8116&MI_00\7&1A040731&0&0000
USB\VID_413C&PID_8116&MI_01\7&1A040731&0&0000

I googled a bit and some sites mentioned blue tooth device but I have the bluetooth drivers installed and all is good.

Any idea wtf the above is and where I can a driver for it (WinXP).

Some more googling reveals it might be a Dell Wireless 5505 Vodafone Mobile Broadband 3G HSDPA MiniCard, Wireless 5510 Vodafone Mobile Broadband (3G HSDPA) Express card, Wireless 5520 Vodafone Mobile Broadband (3G HSDPA) MiniCard

Busy downloading now to check.

Ok, that was it. Don't think the owner even knows this thing has integrated 3G, found the sim slot in the battery compartment.

Cool, Universe Direct in CT used to supply these D620's and D630's as refurb units, dont know if they still do. You would pay like R400 extra for the integrated 3g

I think its a brilliant idea, why don't all laptops come with 3g installed nowadays instead of that 56k modem that 2% of the people use? Saves us carrying a dongle everywhere

Agreed. Even if it's a modular universal unit that slots in under a trap door or sits flush with the body to cater for different standards worldwide. They can provide internal antennas as per normal. Dongles really suck.

Had one of em Dell 620's with 3G

Vodacom had em with a 3g contract back in 2006 I think.
3 year contract do not ask me how much data pm but that was my very 1st 3G enabled laptop, well work paid for it so was all good.

Neat little workhorse, but mine only saw Windows for about 10 minutes in its life, rest was a Linux dream.

Edit: Oooh loook, found the deal being discussed here on mybb... http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/58190-Vodacom-Dell-Special
