Hi Everyone

Recently a number of our clients have experience allot of downtime due to line theft. Now getting internet to them via wireless from a central point in town is not a problem but they have an issue with their analogue phone lines.

We cannot make use of a VoIP provider because the ADSL lines are not stable enough and quality is an issue. So I was wondering if there is a solution that can do the following.

Analogue Line->Ethernet->Wireless->Ethernet->Analogue Line : Analogue PBX

We will cover the wireless but essentially the phone line needs to pass straight through to the PBX. This will happen in the same town so a direct point to point solution would be nice.
 
IP phones ---> Cisco router with VOIP -> ethernet -> stuff -> ethernet -> Cisco router with VOIP -> IP phones / PSTN
 
A separate company have recently upgraded them to new PBX systems and everything was installed as analogue (no digital cards). So now we have to find a way to get an analogue line to the PBX without upgrading the anything on the PBX.
 
A VoIP system should be able to work 100% with a "decent" wireless connection.

You can also get a VoIP supplier that make use of "ViBe" as it reduce the bandwidth used in VoiP traffic. I tested several lines under wireless connections and they all worked 100% with crystal clear sound.

One of the advantages of wireless connection (vs ADSL) is that your line is syncronous (same speed up & down) which is good for VoIP.

(I had a 5Mbps 3:1 contention wireless running data & voice and it worked 100%).
 
Voice channels are generally what, 9600bps?
Less with decent compression. It's latency and jitter that cause issues, not bandwidth.

This is how going cheap, costs you long term in flexibility and features.

Does the PBX not even have an option to add an interface that will do SIP? That will allow you to use the existing handsets and PBX while simply routing calls based on what's up (or not).
 
The PBX does allow for SIP but the IP module is not installed and cost's a hand full. The reason we are investigating this is for a permanent solution where we can have the client’s analogue lines moved to our office and then spread them to the end point using Ethernet/Wireless because we have access to lines that run underground so no chance of being stolen.

From the research I have done it seem we need a direct peer-to-peer VoIP solutions that does not go through a third party service provider. Something that has FXO and FXS ports and available in South Africa.

Something like this, where the internet is just a point to point wireless network:

Proprietary PBX and "part X costs a handful" sounds about right, but is by far the simpler solution.

Why on earth would you want to move the clients Telkom lines to your office? Copper thieves are scum, there is no guarantee they won't steal the lines once at your office.

IMO your client should suck it up, purchase the SIP module and do pure SIP over your infrastructure to a VoIP provider. You could even bin Telkom if the quality is good enough.

You need FXS interface on the one side and FXO interfaces on the other side. This will effectively allow you to bridge the analogue lline over the ethernet/wifi link.

Depending on how many lines you need to carry, there are various gateways/adapters that you will need to install.
There are lots of options. Generally the better equipment will cost you more, so its not wise to skimp.
