Oh my gosh ... my ribs are so sore!!! Have any of you ever heard of something called "Devils Grip" ... my house mate had it two years ago. It is apparently a viral infection that manifests in the connective tissue between your ribs ... and it causes severe DIScomfort. Any of you ever had this? Started yesterday ... but thought maybe I just slept in a funny position ... this morning I could hardly bend enough to get my shoes on ... and when I turn slightly to check my blind spot ... it feels like I have been beaten and have bruised ribs .

Have any of you had this? Is that what this "Devils Grip" thing feels like?

Severe comfort? Sounds nice.

I've had similar when I've pulled an intercostal muscle.

I've had that... Thought I pulled my diaphragm.

How long did it take you to clear it? I am not feeling sick at all ... it is just so tender. I actually checked in the mirror this morning to see if I am bruised on my back. Thought maybe I bumped myself and I just dont remember ... but nothing. Even just turning slightly like that to check my back in the mirror felt like someone was punching me.

Lasted about a week... never went to the doctor but it sounds like it's the same thing

Ill just stick it out. When my housemate had it (I would ask her these questions ... but she is indisposed untill 9 tonight) I think the doctor also told her there is nothing much he can do for her except to put her on pain meds to help with the discomfort. She had it very bad though .... she could hardly move.

I will just stick it out. Migh have to ask her tomorrow morning to help me put on my shoes though :p

Incidentally, when I read the topic, I thought this was some sort of S&M technique.

Then I googled and found this. Ockie, Ockie, Ockie....

Epidemic pleurodynia also is called Bornholm disease, Sylvest's disease, devil's grip and epidemic benign dry pleurisy. It usually is caused by one of the group B coxsackieviruses and is less often caused by a group A coxsackievirus or an echovirus.

Thank you ... now I know exactly what it is considering I am fluent in virology. :p

I also wanted to ask here to see if any of you have had it ... and how long it took to clear. Thank you GreyBush for that :-)

hahaha....ok ... I just saw that bolded part. lol

You can also get a pain like that from eating too much onions

Had it when I was at school, very scary I thought I was having a heart attack.

Do people regularly come up on you from behind when you're bent over…

WTF? Really? There was some onions my the lasagne I made Monday night ... but it was not a lot.

You need to eat a lot of onions for that. Once at varsity I got the munchies and ate a large bottle of pickled onions. A day later I thought that it was the end and that I was having a heart attack. Apparently the gas builds up in between your ribs, can't find any source of that now.
