I have searched the web, and these forums looking for an answer to my question with no joy so have decided to make this post

I have a Netgear DG835G Wireless ADLS Router. Two machines connect to the router via ethernet cable and a further machine via wirless.

My problem is this. My wife and myself play World of Warcraft on the two machines connected via ethernet cable and our latency is on average about 550ms which is fine. However when the third computer, the one which connects via wireless connects to the internet our latency sky rockets to about 2700ms

What is the cause of this and how can I fix this problem?

Is the wireless connected machine being given priority on the ADSL line (which is shaped). The wireless connection only surfs, checks email and downloads occasional programs

Is there a way on the DG834G router that I can set it to specify how much each connection is allowed to use of the actual bandwidth (download speed) or do I have to use software like NEtlimiter on each machine to do this

Thanks

Mark

As far as i know there is no actually way you can limit that wireless connection through the router itself...it also depends on what line you have.. obviously the slower the line the worse ping youll get, especially with more than one computer connected.. that router could be prioritising the wireless connection tho because its only using HTTP or the likewise..as you said your account is shaped. I would recommend u use netlimiter and cap the transfer speed of that computer. That or just make sure no1 uses that computer while ur wow'ing.

Was actually thinking of getting an additional 1GB unshaped account and somehow set up only WOW to use the unshaped account and all other internet usage to use my 3GB shaped account. Any ideas how to do this, I think it involves bridging the router?

You can use bridging to connect to the different accounts, which might help, but if u are bridging 2 or 3 connections, the router will divide its bandwidth up between the connections.. you will just have to test. There is also another program called Route Sentry which i believe is very good. It can switch between connections for you, ie. international and local, so u can chose which 2 use and when.

Read up on Route Sentry. Seems the way to go. Gonna get another 1GB unshaped ADSL account and us this exclusively for WOW. My existing 3GB shaped account will then be used by everything else. This is the theory. Will test it out
