hello

I have a DG834G ADSL wireless router. Connected to this are my 2 desktop PC's by ethernet cable. On top of this my neighbour connects to the router via the wireless connection. All 3 of these machines share my ADSL internet with no problems

Recently I got a laptop from work and have been trying to get this machine to connect to my ADSL via the the Wireless connection at home with no joy

My latop see's my wireless network fine and connects fine as well and if I check its IP address I can see that the DHCP has assigned it a valid IP address and when I check my routers control panel I see my laptop as being connected

But this is where the joy stops and the frustration starts. Even though it says I am connected when I try access the internet I get no joy. I am also unable to browse any of the other machines connected to the router even though I know their IP addresses ( not sure if this is related and if I need to set up a WAN or VPN to do this)

But this is besides the point. I want to be able to surf the net from my laptop but cant. Is it possible that even though I may be connected to the router wirelessly and got and ip address that certain security issues are stopping me from using the net?

My laptop is a mecer Intel Core(2) T7200 with a Intel Pro Wirless 3945ABG Network with WPA - Personal TKIP Security. the router also uses WPA security but doesnt offer TKIP.

What could be wrong. I have been able to connect to other wiresless networks with this laptop and share internet

For obvious reasons I can not turn off my secuirty at home

Any help would be gr8ly appreciated

Thanks

Mark

Firstly, if your using zonealarm, you have to assign your wirless connection to Trusted Zone, Not Internet Zone, else network privaliges are blocked

Next, ensure that IPX/SPX/Netbios in installed under your network adapter.

Make sure your system is set on simple file sharing
(mydocs>Tools>folder options>View> last option on list)

Next share a folder on yr lap, even if you never use it

Next, try connect to lan and inet

if you can see lan but no net, the dhcp server could be issuing your ip, but no dns server.

If its not, just add the gateway ip under your dns server.

Shout if you got it working

cheers

In all, when using a firewall ensure that connection to a wireless network is enabled. Also ensure that you Internet browser is set direct connection. I will suggest using TCP/IP over IPX for ovious reasons, but that is my fill. good luck.

I have have the same wireless router had the same problem ,I just added the laptops Mac Address to to the router list and off i went.
