I grew up with hypoglycaemia and hypotension. At age 32, however, I had my first stroke and heart attack. A few more had followed and I eventually ended up being permanently disabled courtesy a failed laminectomy in 1994 that had left me with limited mobility - it varies day by day.

As a result, no more canoeing, hiking in the mountains, etc. Having been on hypertension medication for two decades now, diabetes was diagnosed two years ago. I don't require injections but take Metformin three times a day.

up to 2004, for instance, blood glucose ranged between 3 and 5, but 3.5 was average. I am an enthusiastic person and very active but always had to fight immense fatigue.

Now, when my glicose drops below 8, I start feeling shaky, same as it used to be when around 3-ish. It makes one feel ''depressed'' but a light snack such as a fruit or an oatmeal biscuit soon sends the ''depression'' packing.

As of late, the roller-coaster blood glucose ride started affected my mood and I become irritable or even agitated when it goes ''too low'' which is still well above 7, let alone a 5 count.

I have no medial aid and the bills are tough to face. I started drinking green tea (not the Durbs stuff that some inhale) as well as cinnamon. Now a diabetic friend has warned me against the use of cinnamon.

Is there perhaps a good natural way of controlling this? It seems to be hereditary as well.

If you have walked the same path and have found a solution, please tell us about it.

It really scares me that it's hereditary.
Something natural that my mum uses is bitter gourd.

I've never been a sweet tooth ever, but everuthing we eat turns into sugar eventually. Eat a steak and test your glucose 4 hrs later.... So I eat the minimum but even so my waist is ever expanding. Really out of proportion by a country mile.

It is not ideal but I am still better off than the rasta riding his blue wheelchair. He has no legs and only one arm.

Scary stuff. Diabetes is not directly related to how much sugary products you consume. If you a choclate lover, you may not have diabetes for example.

Your read correctly. First hypotension (low BP) then hypertension (high BP).

Just before my 1st heart attack and the stroke a few days later, BP was 200/160 and pulse ''resting'' at 125.
And I am used to around 45bpm.

Taking long, brisk walks is still a good way of controlling it to some extent. That happens on days when I can walk upright on my hind feet and not like a question mark.

Somebody mentioned amputation or body parts going missing. One can't always be so seriaas but find humour even where there isn't any. It's like installing air suspension to your car; it helps soaking up the bumpy ride of life.
