Diablo 4 - Official

Finished Act I and it's better than I expected. However:
- Laggy but probably to be expected this weekend. Earlier this morning it was smooth as silk but it got bad later on.
- No pause. Even the cutscenes can't be paused and in this day and age that should be mandatory.
- Other people in the world, I hate that and don't want it in a Diablo experience.
- Level scaling.
- Limited skill tree screen but they'll force a fullscreen map on you.
- Limited skill slots again. Sure it's probably for console but why limit it on PC?
- Insane price
- UI just as horrible as Immortal.
- Buggy quests. An event pops up and asks me to keep the town folk safe and I nuke everything but it doesn't complete stating that I still have to kill the remaining mobs.

I still had a lot of fun and the game has oozing amounts of potential but the drawbacks will never justify the cost of it, will rather pick up the RE4 remake later this year in it's place.

I would like to expand on:

What where you looking for? Pause when I'm in my inventory / right back? This has been so for a while but I suppose is a nice to have so you can continue wen you're done

I guess this is subjective. However, I would imagine that I'm not the only Nephilim trying to save the world. Therefor it would make sense to see other people except myself ingame. I mean this isn't The One Guy savior like doom. Right?

Insane price

I'm no economist or book keeper but you've forgotten about money and currency deprecation; I think that's the smart term for it. Diablo 3 when released was 60 usd in 2012. If you bring that amount over to 2023 it becomes 78 usd (decimal dropped, used inflation usd calculator found online) which in our terms is about 1421 zar. That would make D4 actually R100 cheaper asking 1300 from converted euros. Of course any calc corrections for actual inflation and currency conversion corrections would be apricated. Furthermore, you will not be playing this for 10 hours but I would expect at least 100 hours that would make it about 13 zar an hour if you only value it in hours. But games isn't just hours and there should be entertainment value, value with friends if you miss out on the amount of work that went into it.

Sure 1300 feels like a lot, right? I've dropped 900 3x by now in last 2 months on dead space remake, hogwarts and the last of part 1 (rounded up amounts). Another way to put it would be 10x 900-100k is almost the price of a gpu. lol. The thing is your 2.00 zar cheese burger isn't 2 zar any more and we don't get paid on 2 zar equal amounts. In fact, it's probably 10 tot 20 zar now for a basic mcd cheese burger. I wouldn't know...

Finally, when I find that "70 usd laff at me thread" I may bump it. I said back then 70usd and more wouldn't be that nice as everyone made it out to be.

There is no pause even when going into your inventory, cause you kinda playing an "instanced" MMO even in single-player.

Reminds me of the old Guildwars days

idk it's always been like this with most of my games like elden ring or even baldurs gate 1.

I played on Xbox with no active Gold or UIltimate subscription ie no multiplayer access. Yet I found people in maps and towns. I could not communicate or invite but saw them and could help kill world bosses.

I suspect that on some maps & the dungeons, you are alone but all towns and maps with world bosses are def shared worlds.

Yep, probably a mix between instanced and shared.

Correct. Dungeons and cellars are you and your party. Open world events are mmo style.

Guildwars 1 had a very similar mechanic. If you had someone in your party they were always "pulled" when you move between "instances". If Diablo 4 has the same set-up you could easily see where these boundaries are?

The closest I could think for D4 was it was a Guildwars 2 style Grind. didn't get to level 20 though, I didn't put too much time into it. It was an enjoyable game though other friends just pulled me to play alternatives. Will I buy it chances are yes but will wait a while for a special on it though.

Yes you have to click to enter a dungeon or cellar.

Agree that the UI needs more work. I'm not sure if it's a result of being Beta and still a few months from launch, some improvements can/might be made until then,
but parts of it looked low quality/unrefined. Also takes a large portion of the screen, quite ugly and distracting. Reminds me of WoW (but at least you can scale the HUD to your likiing). So at least
a HUD scaling option would be great.

Also rather disappointed at the small selection of skills you can actively have equipped. What stops them from just using the Shift key as a modifier to swap out to a second layer of equipped skills?
Or perhaps it was intentional due to pace of the game. Not sure, but didn't really like it that much. It's trivial to do this on a console as well.

I'm not sure why they gave us a dedicated dodge button, not to mention the dodge itself feels really bad, and pretty useless most of the time.

Felt the same, very tacky. Unless there are more items/skills that modify it's capabilities, like dodging through enemies stuns them/vaults over them (rogue for example) and does a backstab or something to that effect.

So that you can dodge the mechanics of some of the monsters. Like Ashava - it's really good to be able to zip out of range of those attacks. Especially with melee classes that lack mobility.

Try it on a controller and you'll find it useless most of the time as your character is stuck in some attack animation, dodging too late.

Bizzare. In my odd 20 hours I never was stuck in action using my xb one controller on my pc. However it's wired with a replaced cable (ugreen).
