Hi,

I have the DSL 392 line, and today i unfortunatly had to connect to the internet with a 56k modem (due to a prob with my ADSL one)...

Before i applied for ADSL my line speeds used to be 50-52kb when connected.
Now i get nothing more 46.6, on average 43...

Has this got anything today with ADSL? or has telkom ***ed up my line?

Regards
the skuzman

Nothing to do with ADSL I'm afraid, but it has to do with the line itself and the exchange. I had a similar problem when on dial-up. I could connect at 48k and disconnect and then reconnect at 21.6k. The Telkom Techies came out and told me it was a two fold problem.

Firstly me line was in a underground pipe under the road and it was flooded with water and secondly they told me that the connection at the exchange was so rusted up and covered with bird $#17 that they would need to replace it.

Waited a month or so and got a call from them to ask me to test my connection speed...I couldn't believe it because I connected at 52k constantly and that continued to be the case for about three years after that incident until I got broadband.

There are a lot of reasons why dialup can be inconsistent.

see, but i live in a brand new estate...new wires right up to the exchange/box thing

Could be your modem. Try using an initialization string for it (you'll have to google the name of your modem with the words initialization string) and then add it to you modems dial in settings.

awwww...mission, gettin new ADSL modem tomoz...

yeah but the exchange box thing and wires further on r not new .. area around valley road is notorious for that :(

I sometimes find that the dialup speeds slow down (not as listed by windows, just from experience) as the connection time grows ... so if I leave my computer on the whole weekend it is pretty slow by Sunday ...

right, well today telkom were here testing the line do i dialed in...now, its connects at 28.8Kbps

they say it is probably a fault with the line...but thats all

give them hell - scream and shout and keep shouting till they fix it
make their lives hell to the point that they would fix it just to make you keep quiet. - works for me :)
