Cannot connect to any https:// site this morning, must do some banking. Used my old ADSL username and password, dial with my old fax modem 0860007249. Connect to the server - vuola!! work much better that my new Iburst modem. Did my banking and send my mails, chat with MSN - no problem!

Can anyone recommend a good ISP that can connect met to a 56K dailup network?

Almost any dial-up ISP is good! I had no problems with the dial-up, the problems started when I moved to iBurst ... I was connected to ICQ throughout the weekends 24x7 and I was downloading from eMule at 5 KB/s flat all the time (except first 20-30 minutes until I get to the front of some of the queues). Now I cannot use ICQ nor eMule nor any other non-http based application, but I can enjoy http at 8-12 KB/s! What a deal !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Telecommunication in SA suck big time! By far the WORST in the world!!!

The Tiscali service is very good, above the average, otherwise connectionwise they are more or less the same.

Great Deal ... my only problem is I can't read the text at 8-12 KB/s ... I still read at 33.6 :D

One word: Telkom

And it's all because of Telkomonolopy! Luckily I do my internet banking @ work.

SSH also not working

It’s not only SSL…I can also not work through SSH. I log into my servers, type a few letters then get disconnected. :(

geez calm down, they said last week they had problems and they'd be sorted by wednesday now all week long you guys make thread after thread complaining. I think you guys need to get off the iBurst network ASAP

That is one more reason to stick with a modem :D

I've learned my lesson: The more you bitch, the more you get bitched at! Give WBS till tomorrow to sort things out. However, I remember when I was pissed off last week I couldn't help but bitch.

slim, let them complain. WBS need to know what kinda problems people are having so that they know what else to fix.

yeah ok look i'm not against you complaining, but do it to WBS, phone em up and email or make one thread i'll never go in and complain till your nuts fall off. I'm just sick of going in everythread to read like 8 complaints about the current problem that we all knew about for what a week? I think you're supposed to give them untill the ETA they gave us (wednesday, note not wednesday 7AM, just sometime wednesday) and then if they dont fix you can bitch and moan. Right now they're just preaching to the choir

Dial up??

If you want to go to dial up then you should go ..but if you are asking people on the forum for permission ? Then you should know the answer by now..
If it has nothing to do with Iburst then what is it doing here??

These forums are sup****ed to be a means for people to express their common complaints and other solutions ..not a Dear Abby call line !!!

Another one of those threads...

Clearly this thread is about complaining about how the iBurst network is not performing right now, it is a snapshot at this point in time, and the title of the thread tells you "don't bother reading me if you are not experiencing problems", so just don't bother reading or replying if you are getting what you are paying for.

Things get heated between iBurst forumites when they start arguing amongst one another, so just don't argue, let everyone have their say, and if that means 10 threads about the same thing - well I might find it annoying having more than 1 thread to read, but it is called free speech.

Conclusion: Agree to Disagree :).

56K modem is a lifesaver!

A 56K modem is like a stiffy drive nowadays - you only need it once a year. (I use my stiffy drive to flash my desktop pc motherboard BIOS.)

Fortunately my laptop has a built-in modem that connects at a whopping 50kbps!!!!

It's still better to have a 56K modem and not need it, than need one and not have it.....
