Hi guys 'n gals

Some time this weekend, my mom saw an ad on tv for a sony bravia and a pvr decoder going for R6999.00 or something. i didn't pay attention because she's always said the hd tvs and pvr (seperately) are too expensive and she'd never get them.

earlier today we saw an ad that the pvr is going for R2999 (not sure if that includes installation) and we started chatting about this special she originally saw. she can't remember what day she saw it advertised or what store had the special, friday or saturday. did anyone see this ad? i asked her if she was sure it was a sony bravia, and she said yes 'cos i still corrected her and said "not brava, bravia" and i do remember that the price had a 6 something thousand.

first place we thought of was game, but they have a special for R7499 (which she not willing to pay - we're going half/half - 'cos you still have to get it installed etc and that's another R1000-R1500 or so right?) and Makro has their special for R12k or something. i have googled and can't find such a special.

game has an hd ready sony. we have a standard decoder at the mo', will we need a new dish or do they just put a little doohicky on the existing one?

Sies....HD-Ready. I would shop around for a full-hd ButterflyXXX :)

BTW: That HD-PVR is the cheapest I've seen them, apposed to getting it from SpaceTV that is. Normally R2999.

What is the sense of purchasing full HD when DSTV only broadcasts in 720p. Full HD standard is 1080p, c'mon DSTV catch a wake up

DStv should catch a wake up?

Maybe you should try catching up with global HD broadcast news...almost nobody broadcasts in 1080p..

If you have standard view, you don;t need to change your dish. The LNB may have to change, and you will need to get a multiswitch. Basically the HD PVR needs four outputs, either from a quad lnb or through a multiswitch or via the rolls royce satcr single output. Extra cost is in the lnb, labour and extra cabling. If you were tech savy, or ladder capable, you could buy a satcr lnb for R 900, and swap out your old lnb and connect the single output into your hdpvr. Either way installation should not be more than R 900, otherwise satcr is the cheapest.

Didn't see that special. It is a good price if it exists.
