Hey Everyone :)

I lost more weight before I started my thyroid medication, I am not really moving and I have been on my medication for 2.5 months exactly, how long will it take before i start losing again? I retested my Thyroid two weeks ago and the level was normal, I am carrying on with my meds too.

I have been to Tony Ferguson for 1 year, 16 days and I have lost a total of 32.4KG but I'm not really moving now, can anyone give me some advice?

I was going to ask if you guys think that it would benefit me to take some kind of prescription diet pills like Xenical or what ever else is in south africa?

I would appreciate some insite on what you guys think? or even tell me how to kick start my weight again?

Thanks everyone :)

can anyone give me some advice?
Have you tried an actual diet/exercise regime?

Pills to fix things isn't the way to go if there is a chance of fixing the underlying problem.

Please don't be stupid :p

Eating right and excercises are what you need.

Also mixing diet pills with medication is not bright.

Diet pills are wasting your money

Exercise is basically just cardio running - no weight training yet as it weighs more than fat

Basically still want to lose another 30KG and would kind of like to get it off by the end of this year if my flippin body would hurry up

Getting A little desperate.

How tall are you?
Current body weight?
What body weight do you want to be at?

Generally speaking, lets say you are 1.78m tall, ~78kg is a good weight to aim for, that is if you are not going to be building muscle but just keep your body in shape.

Cardio is a good start, but you will be burning more fat by doing some compound weight training exercises, mostly Olympic training programs like the popular Bill Star 5x5.

Your diet is good...I just don't get why you drink protein shake, when you are not into muscle and/or strength building.

What helped me a crapload (I don't actually want to lose weight, I am in it for gaining, but I lost a lot of fat with this) is to stop drinking anything but water. Trust me, the #1 method for losing weight, is replacing anything you drink, with water. So no more sodas, no coffee, no tea (although I drink 1 cup when I arrive at work), no more than 1-2 alcoholic drinks per week ect. This really works.

Best of luck with your goals.

Hey Tinuva :)

I am 1.85m tall my current weight is 116.4 and was 149.0 I want to be around 80KG

The shake isn't protein but more of a meal replacement shake.

Thank you for the water Tip i do already drink 2L a day but will definitely look into your idea

Agree with Tinuva on the water. I picked up 1kg a week for 3 weeks in February and it was all because I went back to drink 1L of fizzy cooldrink a week. I stopped and went back to only drinking water except for two cups of coffee a day and immediately lost 1kg within a few days.

Stay away from so called energy and sports drinks as well, you should only drink sports drinks after your 2nd hour of continuous exercise (like a long run or cycle).

Tinuva has good advice.

Dude from 150 to 116 I applaud you, that is fantastic!

Remember it is a life choice not a race, you can only lose weight so fast, don't get discouraged!

Frankly I think you are under eating, if you were to eat closer to your BMR you may initially gain a kilo or 2 but in the long run it will definitely pay off.

As for the shake as said you aren't trying to gain muscle, rather eat your calories than drink them IMO. I for example drink my shakes because I am purposefully trying to gain muscle mass and eat more than my daily calories thus a shake makes it easier after all I am already eating. Eating more actual food will help you pshycologicially as well. Remember people who diet more often fail, don't make yourself a diet, make yourself a lifestyle choice to eat a certain way ;)

Compound weight training FTW ;) train like a boss, remember your mind is your biggest obstacle, not your physical strength ;) you can do it, and more :)

Around 80kg will be a great goal weight, even 85 with some nice muscle mass, lighting weights will not make you ick up fat, lifting the wrong and too much food will.

Keep going dude ;)

Thanks for the help you guys, but what can i do to kick start my weight-loss again?

Thanks for the help you guys, but what can i do to kick start my weight-loss again?

My experience with dieting through the years.

1. When i diet i think much more about food.
2. When i excercise too much my appetite rises drastically and bloodsugar get to low if i don't eat.
3. Never used diets pill but about all of those around me that used them became a bit emotionally unstable. Maybe there are new stuff out there.
4. Difficult to maintain high impact excercises over the long term.
5. Low impact excercises are stationary biking and maybe swimming if that is possible. Recumbant cycles are the best for prolonged kilojoule burning sessions.
6. Sleeping meds increase my appetite.
7. Gaining muscle help burning off excess kilojoules, but it is a fine balance in quelling the hunger after weight training.
8. Zinc and multivitamins help regulate my appetite.
9. Drink something sweet and eat small portion meals regularly. Snacking can thus play a role in dieting.
10. Fasting is not good. You only put you body in starvation mode.
11. To much meat also make you fat and a built up of nitrogen in the liver as a result of to much meat can be dangerous. The atkins diet i.o.w must be cautiously done.
12. You cant diet without fat and carbohydrates. It is not sustainable. Google "Rabbit starvation"
13. A diet should be scrapped in favour of permanent lifestyle changes or the weight will just come back.
14. Do not too much at night.
15. Don't eat to much junk food.

Againg some vitamins and minerals help regulate appetite. Zinc is the number one.

+1 to it becoming a Lifestyle, mentioned by D3x!

I certainly don't diet, but my lifestyle changed from drinking Coke 24/7 eating anything that I could lay my eyes on any time of the day to, planned meals each day with the goal of eating healthy, as well as adding in sufficient training.

My plan was to gain weight, what happened was my weight stayed the same, but I lost fat and gained muscle instead. This is something I can live with, and I am loving how I look and feel more and more every day.

Losing 30kg...that is a massive feat already, if you can do another 30kg...that will be insane! (In a good way)

There is the fact however, the body can only sustain changing a certain amount of weight per year, so you might find for a while it will go slower, but if you stay with a healthy lifestyle (healthy food + regular exercise) you will find at some point again you will start losing weight again. It is not always something you can force, but if you eat a deficit of what your body need, you will start to lose weight again.

ps. At 80kg for your length you will look really good, though slightly to the more skinny side, 85kg will be perfect for you. This is an estimate of-coarse, I don't know your body type ect.

I say 85KG will be a good weight as well, I know I may sound a little whiney but I'd just love to get off this excess weight before the important events in the year (matric dance etc) which is late September.

So basically I just carry on what I'm doing?

i disagree with the only drinking after 2 hours.thats way too late!best is after like 30min to drink a bit now and then to stop yourself from dehydrating.i use to cycle for WP and if you only drank liquid after 2 hours you would have cracked long ago.like after 1 hour. Your muscles only keep enough glycogen for an hour.after that youre done.you should eat something small atleast for every hour that you exercise.

op, what heart rate are you running in?staying within 65-70% of your max burns the most fat.base training.

if youre stuck mix things up a bit.if your body gets too used to the routine the returns will minimise.

youre doing exellent so far!keep it up!

oh ya.diets dont work.gradual steady weigh loss stays off.keep the fun in exercising.if it becomes a chor do some other form of exercise thats fun.

If your diet and exercise regiment is right, you will lose weight. If you are not losing weight then you are consuming more calories than you are burning. This is fact for everyone.

What could be complicating this process is your thyroid medication. You are probably taking T4 which initially would help dramatically with weight loss, but eventually your thyroid would experience a negative feedback loop and produce even less TSH (the important hormone to stimulate your thyroid) than in the first place.

Getting the correct dosing is not easy and can make weight management difficult. You would need to cut even more calories now to see results, or add more cardio.

I have quite a bit of experience in this from years of bodybuilding- gaining and dropping lots of weight.

If you could be more specific about your diet it would be much easier for people to advise you. Also, don't bother with diet pills if you want results that actually last. What you need is lifestyle change. There is no quick fix for that, and it seems like you are on the right path already!

it always used to work for me before? now I have frozen with now idea why?

My Thyroid levels have been reported "normal" by my doctor, I have been on the meds for 2 and a half months, but said they can take up to 3 months to work fully, so I suppose i will just wait then?

This youtube video gives 9 tips on how to lose belly fat, but alot of it is true for losing fat in general, also it should be a good motivator!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=KiZ78JPsXpE

#1 is relevant to the brown bread you eat in the morning. You should replace that with something non-processed.

I don't know what the heck vegetable sticks are, but its probably safe to say you should try to eat actual veggies, or rather fruit seeing you already get veggies in with dinner. Typically, you should eat 5 fruits a day.

Now here is a tip:
Apples, take up more energy to process by your body, than what it give back, so essentially, great for people who want to lose weight, not so good for someone who wants to gain weight.
Bananas, probably THE healthiest fruit most people can eat, it is the single easiest item to consume that contains potassium, instead of sodium. You actually want to limit the amount of sodium you take in, which is something most processed foods contain.

This quote is from that Youtube video linked above.
1. Avoid Processed Foods
If it comes in a box, I don't like it. All the preservatives, sodium, High-fructose corn syrup and trans-fats all conspire to drive them calories straight to your gut. If it has more than 3 ingredients, we don't want it.

2. Reduce sugar intake, refined starches
If its not a fruit, we don't want that sugar. We don't want white bread, bagels, pop or pasta. You should make sure all your carb sources got some fibre, too. yams, quinoa, oats, beans and lentils are great sources.

3. Increase Your Fibre
Fibre will slow the absorption of carbs into your body. Chronically elevated blood sugar levels are a big contributor to gut fat. Make sure you are getting at least 30 grams daily. More avocados, lentils, beans, flax seed and all your vegetables are great sources.

4. Exercise, the more the better
Studies showed the more frequently an individual exercise, the faster they lost visceral fat. Big compound movements in particular are excellent. Between weight lifting and cardio, get minimum 5-7 hours of exercise a week.

5. Do Intense Energy System Work
Even when gaining size, a couple cardio sessions 3-4 times per week are a great idea to keep your body efficient with processing food. It won't make you lose muscle but it will prevent you from gaining fat. Stadium runs, wind sprints, prowler pushing, and hill sprints are all excellent examples

6. Get Enough Good Fats
Fat don't make you fat. Period. Watch this for the skinny of fat.

7. Avoid Too Much Alcohol At Once
Alcohol is a toxin on the body and contains calories that can't really be utilized. When you drink, your liver has to clear that poison, and any other calories being processed go straight to forming adipose tissue. Avoid too many drinks at once. I'm talking over 3-4 drinks at any one time.

8. Eat fruits + veggies high in anti-oxidants
You should get at least 5 servings of vegetables a day and at least one serving of fruit. Fruit is the nectar of the Gods. Don't' be a beast in the gym and a bitch in the kitchen. Eat ya damn greens.

9. Decrease Chronically Elevated Cortisol Levels
Cortisol is great to wake you up in the morning but chronically elevated levels will wreck your hormonal profile. Poor sleep, stress, inflammatory foods, and your environment can all make your cortisol too high. A great supplement for this is phosphatidylserine which has been shown to lower elevated levels of cortisol.
I'll make an in depth video about how to lower cortisol levels

All you are doing sounds good ,the highlighted portion is ok
Just a few thoughts about fruit ,some fruit like grapes and apples are very high in sugars so do not eat a lot of them .
I suggest you check which fruit you are eating for sugar content and stay away from the high sugar content fruits.
And i am sure i don't have to tell you to stay away from any and all refined carbohydrates pasta included.
And there is no such thing as a diet to loose weight permanently that is bull shyt and short term ...
It is a change of lifestyle, because your lifestyle of eating must change and stay that way.
Best of luck and keep the good work up .

PS.if you want protein ( lean chicken or lean red meat) have it you will feel full for longer and it will not put on weight

Your diet is very vague and clearly not ideal. You need to split your meals more evenly. Add half of your dinner's protein portion to your lunch instead so you are eating less at night. Not being hungry at lunch is typical of a very slow metabolism. You need to eat small meals regularly to speed up your metabolism. 250g of lean meat is around 80g of protein. Your body will/can only absorb half of that protein in one sitting.

What veg are you eating? Avoid potatoes if you want to lose weight. Rather eat low calorie veg like brocolli, cauliflower, baby marrows, squash, sweet potato, green beans.

Tony Ferguson's shake is terrible. It has around 25g of sugar! Fructose is also BAD for dieting. So drinking lots of fruit juice will keep you overweight too.

Do you know how many calories/jk you are getting in pet day?
