What's the difference between computer science and computer engineering because some of the jobs seem to ask for both especially programming and embedded programming even when a job requires an electronic engineer they will also say computer engineering degree

Comp Sci = Programming + Maths + Stats
Comp Eng = Maths + Programming + Physics + Chem + circuitry and electronics + A whole bunch of other stuff.

The Comp Eng degree is more "all encompassing" which is why it applies itself to many jobs.

I'm guessing you plan on studying one of the two? Look up the college handbook and read the description of EACH module that you will be doing.

Actually there is 3..

CS dept: 3yr
BSc CS - general CS
BSc Computer Engineering - CS with a few modules in electronics, logic & embedded tech

Eng dept: 4yr
Electrical & Computer Engineering - Electrical & electronic eng with focus on embedded & near full CS bachelors. Honors course/4yr with thesis.

The difference is the amount of engineering between the latter two & amount of CS work + thesis. Outcomes from these differs..

CS dudes are the free thinkers, less bound by limitations I've found. Usually very into CS theory stuff and implementing it

CS eng one is a bit awkward as the students don't have as much background into electronics as the engineers. Usually helps with firmware dev work as they have better understanding of hardware integration than straight CS but again.. For most work hardware is abstracted

Elec Eng is like most eng courses, produces people that usually able to take an Idea and implement within a constrained environment but are lesser interested in conceptual CS. Usually the guys that get things done fast as that's their primary

It's funny.. But you see this play put often in a work place involving these types of CS majors

I agree with krycor, except for his sweeping generalizations with respect to the personalities of CS and CS eng people. In my expirience that is just not how it was for me, do not shape a group of people based on what your class was like, the CS eng people in my class were active people, not awkward, they went on hikes and cycled etc. So by that regard they are more tuned into their bodies than the fat neckbeard CS students? :)

Trying to exactly see where krycor mentioned anything remotely towards neckbeards or not being active. He said the course is awkward not the people.

Ahh my apologies, just misread the situation. Maybe it's because he said CS dudes are free thinkers, I dont see how doing CS eng makes you any less of a free thinker.
