Hi there and thanx so long for your help.

I'm in the process of looking to downgrade my access. I have joined the MWEB uncapped package but usage was not even 3Gig the past 3 months.

This caused me to take a look at the different ISP offerings. I have noticed that with Axxess, their Unshaped account from SAIX is ±R100 more than IS. Why is this and which one do you think is the better option?

So far the contestants are Web Africa, Axxess, Afrihost (but they are to cheap, whats the catch?) and Cybersmart.

Thank you so long for your help.

Regards,
Deon

I've been checking exactly the same things...

I'm also a light user of internet services - mainly local & e-mail.

Since discovering this forum, (for the past few weeks) I've been checking up on prices, services particularly on shaped & differences between IS & SAIX.

For now, anyway, while IS seem to have periodic problems due to the Seacom setup, I've decided to stay with Telkom (SAIX) for at least the next month. In the meantime, I've set up an account with Web Africa for Local Prepaid, as they claim to use their own platform, though I have my doubts - it's either through IS or SAIX, surely ?

So far, it's working out well, and only R15/Gig with no expiry dates. (Axxess is max. 12 months).

My questions now are :

How stable is their Prepaid Shaped @ R69/Gig for using SKYPE ? (which wouldn't also be via SAIX, but IS based, I presume).

I'm keen to buy this, as it's competitive with Telkom rates, however, no expiry dates (unlike Telkom's 1Gig per month). But, is it more worthwhile buying the Prepaid Unshaped @ R99/Gig, which I gather must be via SAIX ?

NO, its pure WA cap. They do however also sell IS cap.

And their R69/gig is also WA. Should be stable, perhaps more so then SAIX.

Thanks HavocXphere

Thx. for confirming stability of WA's cheaper shaped offering. Will purchase it soon, to test out Skype calls.
Also, tested WA's e-mail forwarding via their SmarterMail service from Gmail to Outlook Express. After some initial hiccups, found out it was mainly due to their mail server maintenance on the same day(s).

Therefore, to Deon who asked the question in the 1st place, I'd recommend WA's Prepaid offerings...wouldn't be the 1st to recommend them as a Co. & doubt I'll be the last.

Keep well.

Thank you all for the replies.
Based on what I have read the past 24 hours or so about ISP's, is that there is no perfect one.

I read of people cancelling at ISP A to go to ISP B; on the other hand, ISP B is changed for ISP A and so on. I have noticed that people will join an ISP which has been complained about 5 threads later and so on.
Everything, I think, depends on the service you get when you need backup. For instance, I was advised to try out WA. A thread on the same page mentions a person who has been with them for 3 months and wants to cancel.

Thanx again for all the help.

Sincere Regards,
Deon

Yeah but did you read why the guy want to cancel his WA account after 3 months? He didnt even sign up yet, all he want is to abuse the special 3 months. It is like signing up for a 24 month cellphone contract that goes for R180/month but the 1st 3 months you only have to pay R40/month, and then wanting to cancel the cellphone contract after 3 months...

BayCityRoller, to expand on what HavocXphere mentioned, the shaped R69 prepaid option is great for Skype.

Many customers have given us feedback saying that our shaped accounts perform just as well as most Unshaped options.

Go WA! I have been with them for a long time and I can even game on my account at excellent latencies. R69/gb is great value for money through WA.

WA prepaid shaped great 4 Skype

Thx., KRAYON, for your recommendation of that particular option, and LEETHYL for your confirmation thereof.

Will definitely purchase an initial 1Gig soon.

Hi Deon, if you feel that uncapped is not for you you can consider moving to one of our capped products. We have 1, 2 and 3gig caps starting from R69

Axxess now offer unshape gigs at R19 per gig. Also check out Cybersmart's offerings as they are unshaped and usually not affected by seacom outages
