Difference between These Drives?

I would say the Backup Plus Hard Drive is primarily used for backing up (it probably has backup software loaded on it), and the other one is just for general stuff like movies, games, docs.

I would rather get the one for R1400.

Expansion drives haves no software and 1 year warranty. Desktop plus has 2 years and the seagate backup software

Can the backup drive be connected to a router like a NAS drive?

They both have 2 years but the one is more for backup as it has a interface with dashboards etc. while the other is more compact and used on the fly.

Can the backup drive be connected to a router like a NAS drive?

Yes if your router has USB

Just buy the cheaper one. R600 extra just for some software is not worth it. Lots of backup utilities for free on the web.
I see game has the WD 3TB for 1599.00 (on special), so the R1399 @ makro is a good deal.
