Hi guys

We are a few friends living together. While I have my own business as a web designer and internet marketer I work from home. To do my job properly we have a 4MB UNCAPPED line from Telkom DSL.

Now, the other guys play World of Warcraft and some other online games at night. One guy told me they changed the line to throttled (or unthrottled - I can't remember and not sure) so they are able to get the most out of our ADSL line at night when they play their stupid games.

When I did a speed test earlier today (as I noticed a slow down in web browsing), I saw that the download speed is 1.34MBps (before they changed it, it went up to 5MBps) and the upload seems normal at 0.52MBps.

My question, does being throttled (or unthrottled for them being to enjoy their games) lower my download speed during the day and increased speed at night? What is the difference between throttled & unthrottled uncapped internet?

He might be talking about slowing his torrent downloads.

If you torrent while you game your ping will be affected.

No according to him they went to the local Telkom shop to do the change - Torrents are done rarely and when it is done, it is done at nights when everybody is sleeping and totally stopped in the mornings to accommodate me to do my work.
