it seems as if some of the guys who use news servers have progressed from torrent downloads. do you get movies and TV shows from news servers? sorry if that's a silly question but i can't imagine what else anyone would download. if the answer is "yes" how'd you do it? tks

Garyvdh's tutorial is good, but it's a little complicated for my taste. here is the laymen's guide to accessing News Servers:

1) Register yourself on the Tor Network
2) Access the Deep Internet via Port 288:34[168]
3) Wait for it to connect, and listen for active servers (should take roughly 20 secs)
4) Install all your NZB //FTPR points, and grab the latest release cache list via the Incoming Transfers Window.
5) Go to the Search Field in the Black Panel (click on the tool icon twice)
6) Type in what you need, search, and download.

*Be sure to nuke all bad releases, and seed the releases with Active Port String Uploads with ratios of 50:1 or higher.

easy peasy :)

tks Schumi and Keeper - whew luckily i've got the weekend to work on this. can't wait to post "i don't use torrents anymore"

p.s. i'm with WA

eh?? Just use bitthief. I hitter better speeds than any torrent client and it doesnt upload just download the torrents

you're right - can"t access www.torproject.com. ta for that link Schumi. funny thing is torrents have been working well but i can't find the british TV series Messiah with Ken Stott - i neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed to watch it :-), it's there as DVD download but not as .avi

BitThief is freely available. We encourage you to download and use it. As it is a scientific project, we require measurements of the performance of our exploits. For that purpose, the client occasionally transmits data to our webserver. The transmitted data merely contains information about the time required to download files of different size. In particular, only a hash of the info hash is transmitted, which means that it is not feasible to determine what has actually been downloaded. However, we advise you not to download any copyrighted material.

Nee dankie.

I use a torrent download service and download http from them.

not surprised i didn't know how to do this. man, it's complicated!!! this worked (https://www.torproject.org/) and the program downloaded - now to follow the rest of Keeper's instructions. myBB went down last night just after i installed Tor - terrifying experience :)

Oops

Just saw the thread now.....I feel so guilty :erm:
I know nothing about News Servers, I thought somebody would have called me out long ago

Sorry for joking around, I didn't think anybody could actually follow those instructions :D

The difference:

Torrents often have passworded files and you cannot always trust them.
Nzb's can be 1000 days old and you can download full speed
Just about anything you can imagine is on nzb.
You don't have to worry about uploading nor do you have to worry that you won't get full speed.
It costs about 70-100 bucks more to use nzb's if you use international servers but it worth the extra cost.
Nzbs are far far superior to torrents in every way except financially :D but you get free news servers as well but it is so cheap i doubt many people will struggle to find 100 bucks extra a month.

I don't even touch torrents anymore. nzbmatrix.com is all a person needs :D.

i'll get there in the end - i hope i can, i think i can, i know i can :D
