Hey Guys

I have a 192 DSL Line. Now normally i get much faster than 192 (I download at 35k/s). This seems to be the norm for everyone (getting more than what your line is supposed to do). However, sometimes after a power failure or router reset, im stuck at 20 k/s on the DSL line test. Only after switching my router off and on again, do i get normal 35k speeds again.

Last night we had a power failure, and now my line is stuck on 20k/s. After many router resets, pc resets...etc. I cant seem to get back to 35k/s. Has anyone else experienced anything like this before? Or explain to me how people get faster than normal line speeds in the first place - is it random? or do you just happen to get a lucky connection at the local exchange?

I had a 512 line for like 4 years plus. It behaved as expected.
I switched to 192 to see what it's like and to save tons of money, and it sucked.
I asked them to switch to 384 and now it's behaving like a 256.

Seems my line has been degraded.
I shudder to guess what happened to your line.

KillerX - everyone gets faster line speeds

192k = 384k
384k = 512k
512k = 640k
1024k = ?

It's got a lot to do with the amount of users on your DSLAM and how busy they are.

I just got back from Cape Town from a 10 day holiday. On my 192 package I used to get 35kB/s. However upon switching my pc on and checking what new horrors Telkom had in store for me, I see that my line speed has degraded terribly.

I have tried rebooting my router etc. Doesn't seem to work. I'm supporting OpenWeb and throughtout November my speeds have been terrific. Perhaps it has something to do with the IS/SAIX peering link or the fact that it's the end of the month.

Same thing here. Was getting 50kB/sec (384 package) and then powered off (thunderstorms). When i powered up again, stuck at 40kB/sec!!

Hope mine 'comes back' like yours did!! Did you reboot/reset when it came back, or did it just fix itself?

Okay... guess i'll just have to wait it out then :)

hold on, what kinda speeds should one be expecting when im the only user on the DSLAM using ADSL?

!! ADSL LINE Reset GONE BAD !!

HI Guys! Telkom recently installed a 384K line, and i got a wonderfull 55kB/s avarage download. But my router started freezing, when this happens, i cant ever PING my router. I have to disconnect the power for a few seconds, and connect it again for me to be able to ping the router again. I started fidling inside my router(Telkom ADSL 5100), and discovered this Option "Reset ADSL Line". I though "OK, mabe my line needs a restart to fix the problem". After doing this, i got the SHOCK of my life.. my connection speed wont go more than 38kB's. I feel like crying and hurting someone :)

Now i've read a few posts, and it seems that the line will fix itself, but how many of you have actualy had this problem, and did it correct itself?Should i contact telkom of what?

Please help
