So I want to get a phone contract with vodacom but I have an issue. I want to only have data on the contract with a cellphone. Anyone know the possibilities of that happening? (No rush only plan to get next year)

Firstly get some prepaid SIM cards and check the data signal in the area you are most likely to use it. You may find some networks have stronger signal.

There are data only plans. Also compare the different networks and see what packages they offer along with the type of signal you are getting. Many offer month-to-month contracts, so the worst is you are locked into the first month to test and second month to give notice.

Don't forget the 3rd party data suppliers that piggyback on MTN, i.e. Axxess and Afrihost.

From what I can see, Telkom is offering one of the best data packages available, if you are in their coverage area. Vodacom seems to shy away from month-to-month contracts. So you stuck with 24 months or prepaid. MTN allows 3rd party piggybacking on prepaid. The others I don't know.

But the most important thing is coverage. This should be your starting point.

Well I already checked my vodacom signal and I've got 70% signal for 4g in the weakest signal zone of my house. I get one bar of edge with telkom with the best signal zone of my house and it never switched to mtn sadly. Mtn doesn't have that great of a history with me. Lots of problems with incorrect billing and such and they never decided to help me resolve it. Cell c doesn't have a good signal where I live though. So vodacom seems like the only option. Any idea if I get let's say a s7 edge and 3 gigs of data with them what the monthly cost will be? (No airtime or sms included)

Check the Vodacom website. With Vodacom it is cheaper to buy the phone outright. If you take it on a contract you will pay more for the device. You also get better SIM only contracts from Vodacom.

If your MTN signal is good consider Axxess or Afriihost for data piggybacking on MTN prepaid SIM. That way you have no billing obligations to MTN. Data is purchased through a 3rd party.

It's all well and good that the phone is cheaper if I buy it outright but I don't have the cash a available for an upfront purchase. The contract really is my only option sadly. I can't find anything on the vodacom site. Maybe I'm useless with their site it doesn't make sense.

Thank you so much for the help so far man! :D

Geez dude.
Go to the Vodacom sight
Select make of phone
Select model
Scroll through packages offered

Vodacom Smart Data 4Gb, 50min, 0SMS + Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge = R1009/pm

You will end up paying R24000 for the 2 years.
The phone is R14K
You'll be paying R10K for the 96Gb or R104/Gb or R416pm for 4Gb
Axxess costs R196pm for 4Gb.

Work out what a loan will cost you to borrow R14K
