Hey all,

I would like to know if it would be possible to setup a network, where each computer with in the network has a different IP address on the internet?

What do I need to do this, and what are the costs I am looking at? I have heard that using a broadband connection with different accounts per pc is an option as each DSL account gets a different IP - once a day or something like that?

Alternatively what are my other options?

Thanks Guys

Get an account that allows concurrent connections ( IE most capped accounts in existence - refer to hellkom for prices )

Requirements: Adsl router with bridge/halfbridge capability. ADSL account. Multiple Computers. Phone line with adsl

You can make a max of 4 PPPOE connections off a single ADSL line, its a limit on Telkom's side. So effectively you would only get a max of 4 IP addresses that way. Also you would need a router that supports source based routing.

Another alternative, is to get a Virtual Private Server, aka VPS, account at a data centre, apply for extra IP addresses on the VPS and then create a VPN link from each PC across the single ADSL account running say a local bandwidth PPPOE session. So that each PC gets its own public IP address via the VPN connection.

Data centre bandwidth though is expensive in the region of R100 per gig, but could be cheap to get the solution working.

Please explain a bit more :o

I have to ask the question... why would you want four different IPs facing the internet from a single network?

The reason for the different IP's can not be disclosed at this stage. But four is not the number, the network is potential going to run 16 PC's

Please keep suggestions coming in guys - feel like SUCH a n00b here

Only networks I know that have 16 internet facing IP`s ... are data centers. Good luck on this.

You can also order a Diginet from Telkom - this will give you much more than 16 static IP's... but will cost you dearly...
